Cam Payne cut by Spurs. Brad needs to pick this guy up immediately. I love the idea of Payne as a depth guard. Good shooter. Funny personality. Shoot, I'd sign him strictly for the Sam Cassell/Cam Payne interaction...Those two would be hilarious together.

Not necessarily. Guys on a camp deal, exhibit 10 or exhibit 9 or whatever are obviously a longshot. But that's what Vonleh and Justin Jackson were last season and they both ended up making the opening night roster. Vonleh got valuable rotation minutes too.
Max Strus started off his tenure with Miami on an exhibit 10 deal.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

What was that Brogdon for Dinwiddie proposal that someone posted earlier in the summer? Half joking..

Solid player, still only 29, probably wants a bigger role than the Celtics can offer with White/Brogdon/Pritchard on the roster.

Oh no, not another tall guy who can shoot!
How do you know he can shoot in the NBA? We'll see. Hope he does well though.

Houston will probably pick up Cam Payne after they release KPJ.
Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. has been arrested in New York City and charged with second-degree assault and strangulation due to a domestic violence dispute in the city, police sources have confirmed to NBC Sports.
Porter, a four-year NBA veteran, started 59 games for the Rockets last season as their primary point guard, averaging 19.2 points and 5.7 assists a game. Porter signed a four-year, $63.4 million extension with the Rockets last October, however, while this coming season is fully guaranteed at $15.9 million, only $1 million is guaranteed for 2024-25 and nothing beyond that.

It's tough for guards in free agency right now. The other guards who are better than him (VanVleet, Schroder, Gabe Vincent, etc.) all got signed. So now most teams have their guard rotations pretty much set in stone.
Most of these end of the bench signings we've seen over the past few weeks have been wings or bigs.
Also, Hampton was just on the Magic, they cut him so he went to the pistons and now after like a half season, they don't want him either. That's 2 of the worst teams in the league. Next stop for him might be Europe..
How do you see him compared to Jd Davidson? Is he 2way worthy

It wouldn't shock me if that happens. But I think Houston was gonna play KPJ more on the wing and less at the point this season, with VanVleet and Amen playing most of the mins at PG..

Re: Trade/Free Agency Thread 2023-24, part 10 and Counting . . .
My Celtics Trade Of The Day
What the Celtics do with their 2024 Draft Picks is quite intriguing to me. Most likely, a few of them will be moved out between now
and the Trade Deadline. But, should they keep them all up to the Draft, they would most likely have the following Picks (in terms of value):
GSW First (somewhere between 5 - 25)
Boston First (likely between 25 - 30)
Chicago Second (31 - 40)
Dallas Second (47 - 52)
Trying to integrate four young players into a Contending Team makes little sense, but with the new CBA,
you need a steady supply of quality, cost-controlled talent. So, my idea is for the Celtics to keep one First and
one of the Seconds and trade the other Picks for a better First down the line (2025-28).

If the events in the reports are true (strangulation and a broken bone), the NBA needs to boot this guy off for a year at least,
and he should serve some jail time.
I think Payne likely signs with Miami, LOL, that's my Free Agent fallback. I don't see him going anywhere near Houston,
since he wants to play for a Contender.

I'll never forget when Cam Payne got traded from OKC to CHI and word leaked out of CHI somehow that "wow, this guy sucks".

I respect that he has become pretty decent in the years since then. But at 6'1" 180lbs I don't see the Celtics having much interest.

Payne to Miami would certainly make sense..they need a PG. All they have is Lowry. And even if they get Dame, they will probably be trading Lowry in the package to egt him, which would still leave them with only 1 PG either way..

Funny how they end with "didn't live up to expectations as a lottery pick." Pretty sure the average 14th pick is a production level of a backup guy/spot starter like Payne.
I love the draft but people have crazy high expectations all the time.

lol yeah some of the stuff I have been seeing Woj and Shams tweet lately (especially related to Payne and now Thompson) looks like the agents themselves are writing these tweets.

Getting Payne would be a tough call. I like the idea of Pritchard getting a shot as being a legit backup PGddb wrote:Cam Payne cut by Spurs. Brad needs to pick this guy up immediately. Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."
