It took a couple of seasons… but here is your why we and so many others passed him up.

Makes you wonder what Cam Whitmore‘s deal is as well. Houston keeps on taking chances on these guys.

He found out teams had medical concerns that he wasn't aware of.

More info on current event...
Before that, a police spokesman had told CNN that Porter Jr. "assaulted her, struck her multiple times and choked her."

On being suspended by USC...
Back in college, he was suspended at USC for two games for "conduct issues." In 2020, Porter was involved in a one-car crash and charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, failure to control a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana. Though all charges were eventually dismissed, the concerns surrounding him were not.

A lot more happened. That's the only thing that got out. And it was an incident that happened in the school with coaching staff that was supposed to have him kicked out of school. But something/someone incourage the staff to let him return and finish out the year. The decision was to have little media attention about Porter as possible even during the draft process.

However this incident will be the final nail in his NBA career. No coming back from this.

Right, I've heard about it before probably from a podcast but don't have a story or the right podcast to link it to.

Here's a running total of just his disciplinary history...
▪ Jan 13 2019 -- Suspended by USC for "personal conduct issues"

▪ Nov 4 2019 -- Suspended 1 game without pay by the NBA for making improper contact with a game official

▪ Nov 15 2020 -- Arrested in Mahoning County on felony gun charges, misdemeanor drug abuse and traffic violations

▪ Dec 17 2020 -- Mahoning County grand jury drops all charges

▪ Jan 21 2021 -- Traded by the Cavaliers to the Rockets after getting into a screaming match with team officials over his locker being given to Taurean Prince

▪ Apr 28 2021 -- Fined $50k for violating the league’s Health and Safety Protocols; attended a social gathering of greater than 15 people on April 19

▪ Jan 3 2022 -- Suspended by coach, Stephen Silas, after he threw an object in the locker room, got into a verbal altercation with assistant coach John Lucas and left the arena before the conclusion of the game

▪ Sep 11 2023 -- Arrested and charged by the New York Police Department for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick

Here is a little bit of a tibit. The nba has a sponsor drug/behavorial program in Houston who is also affiliated with the Rockets. Michael Beasley was sent there when he was with the Heat and no one knew.

When players with a history of behavioral history go to Houston all of a sudden, sometimes there is a reason strategically by the NBA.

I remember when Porter was looked at as a draft prospect, idk if I said it or insinuated it, but I felt the guy shouldnt gotten drafted at all. Now the NBA got to deal with a player who may have ruined an WNBA player career. A fractured vertebrae! Do you know how hard of an impact that has to be? I had a spinal contusion playing highschool football on a punt return from getting clocked by a short 215 lbs fullback (clocked plenty of times by fullbacks, my worse enemy) that had me out of school for almost a month. And that didn't fracture my spine.

Well, they're still doing this during the time of social media, they're just not having to fly commercial where the public has access to them at these times. People seem to forget how many advantages the current players have over previous generations. NBA teams weren't private until Detroit's owner bought a team jet in the late 80s and the rest of the league followed that lead in the early 90s.

In 1987, the Pistons were the first pro sports franchise with a team-owned airplane — Roundball One.

But on Thursday, a source familiar with plans told The Detroit News the Pistons are retiring Roundball One and moving to a charter service.

Beginning next season, the Pistons will join the NBA’s charter agreement with Delta Airlines, which services 27 of the league’s 30 teams. The Mavericks, who fly on a 757 provided by owner Mark Cuban, will be the only team that utilizes its own plane. The Heat and Rockets have agreements with other providers.
