When you don't see a guy play regularly, you're mostly left with stats and highlights to form your opinions.
And while Jaden is very efficient, he doesn't carry the offensive volume yet to quite justify the hype we have for him as hometown fans.

Vanderbilt is a poor comparison, they are nothing alike offensively.

Is Jaden going to turn down the money and bet on himself?
I expect it to go down to the wire.

Once we got past the middle of July with no news, it was pretty obvious that this thing would likely be drawn out until late September into October. Deadlines bring motivation.

I know that. You know that. But I fear that in the average fan's mind, they're very similar.

(additionally, we're talking about a large group of people that don't realize that Jaden McDaniels and Jalen McDaniels are two different people...)

I get your point.
Let me put it this way: What do you think opinions on say DeAndre Hunter or Cam Johnson on this board would be?
They'd probably vary a lot, we'd certainly be less informed overall than an Atlanta forum.
Take outside opinions on our non-star player with a grain of salt.

I get yours as well.

But this stuff does matter. Perception outside your market matters when it comes to future all-star voting, award voting like all-defense, which affects future contracts.

It's going to go down to the wire, but Tim C usually gets his man signed. He likes to keep his team together - just look at previous deals for Porter and Barton, etc. My concern is that Jaden will get a larger than expected deal and it hurts financial flexibility later.

My gut says it will come some point during camp...heck, he could be the first player in NBA history to agree/sign in Abu Dhabi.

Your point about Porter is spot on....and I've been saying it for months. Honestly I'd rather max him now Porter style rather than let him get to RFA. RFA might allow us to save a few dollars, but at the end of the day this is a people business. Going to RFA/matching usually leads to that player not staying with the same franchise beyond that new contract.

Another interesting data point today. Vanderbilt signed a 4 years 48mil extension with LAL. So JMcD 24mil per year?

First they try to take Ant away from us and now they’re trying to take away Jaden?? Man, these former Wolves are bitter!

Totally kidding in Vanderbilt’s case. And agree with him. McDaniels is freaking awesome.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

The problem with that is, it can be said for a lot of players (Grant). They get overpaid because they aren't true number ones. Then the current team they're on needs to find a new star player to play along with the overpriced guy or he wants to leave because now he seems to think that he's the man and cant take less.

Man..Ant needs to just leave Van alone lol he clearly moved on from the team. Its one thing to associate with someone but another for the other person outside of a game to try and intentionally sabotage you're team and by doing so, taking money out of Ant's and his families pockets. The last game we played against the Lakers Ant and Jaden didn't seam to have that killer instinct because they were still palls with them.

“We’d love to get something done,” Connelly told Krawcyznski. “We want Jaden to be here as long as possible. Oftentimes those back-and-forths pick up more as the season gets closer, but fingers crossed. In my experience in Denver and here, we like to reward people who earned it. Jaden is a huge part of what we’re doing now. He’s going to get better and better and better. Great kid. And we think his best basketball is in front of him.

“As I told Jaden and his representation, the cool thing about extension talks is they should be overwhelmingly positive. The fact that you want an extension speaks to the team’s excitement about his upside. Very few guys are fortunate to get extensions, so again we’re hopeful we can meet that point where we’re both happy with something moving forward. I think he’s going to have a good year and we hope he’s here for a long, long time.”

I believe the extension deadline is the day before the first regular season game, so there is still around a month to get a deal done.
