Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

This is precisely what I did NOT want to see happen.
Good on Golden State though, Garuba will be a nice understudy for Green. If we get a Celtics/Warriors finals, dude will probably go ham.

Hal14 wrote:TL/DR let's temper our expectations in terms of anyone else we sign to fill out the roster.
One thing I am thinking about, in terms of signing a big for the last roster spot - is thinking about it from the free agent's point of view. Bigs aren't gonna want to sign here. Think about it. Someone like Gabriel, Biyombo, JaMychal Green or even Garuba or Queta. They could possibly be the 2nd string big in Orlando. They could have a good chance at being the 2nd string big on the Nets.
They could be 2nd string big on the nuggets. I mean, if you can't beat out the corpse of deandre jordan and zeke nnaji for minutes, you must be pretty bad.
They'd be 3rd string big in Chicago - if Vucevic or Drummond goes down, all of a sudden they're getting big minutes.
They'd be 3rd string big with the Clippers. They'd be 3rd string big in Phoenix, with the possibility of of being 2nd string if they beat out Eubanks (who decent but not THAT good). They could be 3rd string big on the hornets, with a chance at being 2nd string if they beat out Nick Richard (and if Mark williams or richard goes down, they get lots of playing time).
Hell, they would probably have a more clear path to minutes on the bucks, lakers or Cavs. Probably the Hawks too.
Any of these guys, if they come to Boston, they know that best case scenario, they're the 4th string big. And they'd probably be 5th string behind Kornet. I mean, some of them like Gabriel and Biyombo could have a good shot to beat out Kornet for minutes. But someone like Queta who has been in the league for 2 seasons and basically has only played g league during those 2 seasons - it's highly unlikely he beats out Kornet for minutes. So Queta would much rather go to one of the teams I listed above.
Which is why I think Foster Jr is a nice option. Those other bigs can be picky and sign with a team like the Nets or Nuggets or whatever where they could probably play more. But a guy like Foster Jr, he went undrafted. Played in the g league last season. Only played in 1...yes, 1 NBA game last season for Philly. He's been a FA for the entire offseason. I can't really find any rumors anywhere that say any teams are interested in him or even worked him out. He's gotta just take whatever contract he can get at this point.
Compare that to Queta for example. He's at least gotten in a few more NBA games, has shown some good flashes in those games. He's only been a FA for a few days now and there's already a bunch of rumors and hype circulating about him going somewhere. And he was a 2nd round pick.
Foster Jr is only 20. I like his upside. He's a big, built like a tank. He shows some shooting potential, some flashes of creating off the bounce. He can finish strong at the rim with some powerful dunks. He's got some moves around the basket, some good footwork. You get him in the gym everyday working with our coaches and learning from Rob, Al and KP - in a winning environment here in Boston. I think he's a guy you could put on a 2-way, get plenty of reps in Maine but you develop him and long term he could be a really solid player.
It's pretty much the same thing with that 15th roster spot, if we decide to try and sign a wing, or a forward. There's gonna be at least 5 or 6 other teams with a more clear path for that FA guy to get wing/forward mins than there is in Boston.
If Brad signs anyone else who is legit, he just has to really sell them on being on a contender. They might not get many mins but at least they will be on the team favored to win it all. Win a ring before you retire. Or, just sign Griffin since he loves it in Boston. Of course, it seems unlikely that will happen since he is probably gonna either retire or sign with a west coast team to be closer to his family..
Foster is moving up my wishlist. I look at the clips and wonder how he doesn't have an NBA job already. Yeah, summer league. Yeah G-League Ignite. Yeah, he's an undersized big, a tweener. But dang, the dude is a freight train.
Ideally, he would be looking for minutes on a young team where he could get more exposure, but a lot of the young teams have been to the lotto repeatedly and are full up on potential. I think Foster is sort just a feeling the effects of the squeeze. There's a lot of young talent in the league right now, but the high-end talent is hard to come by. He's competing with rookie contracts, journeymen, and hungry vets. It's always this way to some extent, but when I look at Foster's game I think just a few years ago he would be snapped up by a lottery level team looking to add some potential.
Out of the young bigs we've listed (Gabriel, Queta, Garuba(

Foster looks like he could be a nice bookend offensively to Walsh's defense. Both young and not going to contribute this year, but nice pieces to keep and develop to backup JT and JB when the coffers are bare in the next couple years (barring any trades and whatever Brad keeps for picks).
Anyway, the risk/reward looks pretty good if Foster would be willing to play in the G-League again this year.
Edit: MFJ has a nice post game too, which could also work against him in the current NBA gestalt. Joe would be yelling at him, "Get out of there, go stand behind the 3 point line!"

Calling Dwight "the 2020 Lakers championship center" lol, like c'mon man. 2020 was 3 years ago! He's been playing in china for the past couple yrs. He'll be 38 this season and he was like 9th on the Lakers in minutes during the 2020 NBA finals.
Have some shame haha.
The agents must be like paying these guys to write this stuff.
Dwight was one of the key reasons why the Lakers bear the Heat in the Finals.
And you don't have to look up stats. He knocked Bam out of the series with his physical play.
We would have beat the Heat with Dwight last year.
You just need him for about 15 minutes a night. Just rebound, defend and be physical.

He played 71 minutes in the entire finals and they sat him basically the entire game 6. He didn't knock Bam out with his physical play. Bam reinjured the shoulder that was already hurting by the Boston series.

19 seasons, 38 years old. I would think he's cooked, but we're relying on Horford, so I guess Dwight can still contribute as well. The two of them could have split minutes and given each other "nights off" if Dwight was here. Not a big fan though, and he doesn't shoot the ball deep.

I mean, he looked awesome at summer league last year and then barely played all season.
Apparently he’s going to be awesome this year.
Seriously though was anyone offering this guy non-minimum money?

I wish I didn’t like Jordan Walsh, everybody I think will turn out amazing always turn out of the League. I got to figure out a way to stop always falling for guys that become Celtics.
I say this, because Garuba is going to turn out great with the Warriors, but I would have somehow jinxed him if he came here!

It’s not me, it’s the universe being petty, always working against me! I tried begging and pleading… didn’t even make the finals.

Hahaha. Hurting from the boston series? Really?
The dude turned to shaq against the celtics. Particularly against softie Daniel Theis. Bam got injured in the finals by trying to bang against Dwight. If we had a banger against the heat during the bubble and last season, we would have had a better chance. Instead, we had guys like butler posting up our so called bigs. and having easy perimeter jumpers, and layups from unatheletic role players. Not saying Dwight is the solution, but he would have helped us. and he was a steal for the lakers during the bubble with his unguaranteed cheap contract.

Bam hurt his shoulder and wrist against Boston. I guess Theis was so strong and physical he ended up taking off all of Bam's HP? That's not how injuries work, bruh.
Howard was a disaster for the Lakers whenever they had to put him on the floor. His on/off was -22, 0, -19, 0, and -3 in the 5 games he played. So bad that Vogel just sat him for game 6.
