Somehow the Guardians came back and beat Texas. Can't imagine how their fans are feeling.

Need to get 2 less losses than Texas the rest of the way. Obviously not likely given how terrible this team is playing but not impossible now.

All we needed was a Texas split to be safe, but it's crazy how we're somehow still in it despite that gong show of a series.

Also vladdy suddenly hitting home runs in consecutive games. Thats why this guy is so frustrating, he can literally fling the bat at the ball and hit it out, and yet only has 24 on the season. It's obvious the talent is there, I hope he really gets it together in the offseason.

They’re effectively where they would have been now had they lost that series 1-3 now, just with 2 less games on them to make up ground. It’s a bad spot to be for sure but still at least possible. All of these teams sort of suck.

Vlad looking like an actual threat at the plate today could be an important development. It likely won’t be though.

Per Fangraphs (numerical model with no eye test)
What a crazy week

Monday Morning - 80% chance of making the playoffs
Friday Morning after getting swept - 34% chance of making the playoffs
Saturday (9:00 pm) - 60%

Some may rightly view those odds as a little high -- but the point is more to show the crazy up and downs of this week so far.

I heard in on the radio today again while biking that we will likely need 91 wins to have a decent chance. That would probably be the lock number at this point. We will have decent chance if we can even get to 89, but no guarantee though that gets you in (if the team can do that?)

Is any fan base of the 4 WC Contenders happy right now?

Probably Seattle, but that might be it.

Missed game, just watched replay. What in the world is Vlad thinking not tagging up? Inexcusable. A guy having a down year hitting has to at least play smart, do the little things. Just terrible

Not so fast. Houston now has tying run at bat, bottom of ninth, nobody out.
Crazy game.

They're all on suicide watch. But at least with the Astros, they've been the best team in baseball the last 4 years, so this can't sting as much. The Mariners have a small window of contention, so I imagine their fans would be angry, and Texas is a perennial underachiever, so they're fans are naturally fed up too.

Houston still has some games left against bad teams now (4 against the Royals), but it's mostly good ones left (3 each vs Baltimore/Seattle/Arizona). They're very much in play now too.

Plus they are the only one we hold the tiebreaker against. (so in a way we are 1 game closer to them than the other two)

Yeah, in my mind, we're a game behind them and effectively two behind the others right now (because I'm really only looking at the loss column this time of year).

I have been pretty much watching baseball since 5:00 with a few breaks... all 4 AL "WCm"games today have been really entertaining, and in some cases wacky.

Mariners give up 5 in the top of the 11th.
What a crazy day. Frustrating, mind numbing, yet entertaining.

Astros lost
Mariners lost
Rangers lost
Red Sox lost
Blue Jays won

We got a perfect Out of town scoreboard for the second straight day.
