The best Patrick Ewing seasons

Post#1 » by 70sFan » Sat Sep 16, 2023 9:30 pm

I have not reached Ewing with my tracking project and I am still undecided if I should include him or not. I watched quite a lot of Knicks games from his prime throughout the years, but never with a clear focus on Ewing.

I wonder how would you rank his best years. 1990 seems to be a massive outlier offensively speaking, but I am interested in the next season's (1991-94 in particular, but also 1989). Please let me know what you think about it.

Always loved Ewing. Used to have his jersey when I was younger and was thinking about getting that split swingman one on fanatics but idk yet.

As for the topic at hand? I will say his best individual stretch was 88-90. Scoring and efficiency was all time high and defense was great as was his rebounding. It was probably the most healthiest he was during his career.

1990 was his offensive peak and 1992-1994 was his defensive peak.

I always wonder what would've happened if the Knicks drafted Sprewell over Hubert Davis. I think Ewing wouldn't have minded taking a back seat offensively to Spre if it meant they have a better chance of winning. I don't think Ewing's ego was that out of control like other greats who played in that era.
