I mean what do you expect? Some random athlete from another sport who talks about how great he is at a different sport even though there is zero evidence to backup anything he has said, says give him a year and he could beat the GOAT of the other sport. Of course anyone who watches MMA or knows anything about MMA will call out how laughable all this is.

If we were to flip this and Jon Jones were to say, “back in middle school and as a freshman I was an elite basketball player (with zero proof of this), give me a year and I could beat LeBron 1 on 1.” Would it be defensive and insecure if NBA fans laughed at this idea?

Because that’s basically what James Johnson just did with MMA. I don’t think anyone calling him out on this is defensive or insecure. I think anyone who knows anything about MMA gets a good chuckle from this.

We’re talking about a man who has no documented proof of actually being in a professional fight while only holding a black belt in karate (which is literally the least effective martial art when it comes to an MMA fight).

But yes one year of ground training & he’ll be able to beat the greatest MMA fighter of all time …

Lol at Karate being the least effective martial art in mma.

Lol, James Johnson can't even beat some of the guys in the NBA right now with that fake ass made up fighting background he carries around.

If you put Johnson and Steven Adams in a cage for example, I'd put all my money on Adams without thinking twice.

There... this would be a lot more realistic.

Love JJ but don't let bring the baddest man in the nba confuse you in life lol.

In boxing honestly probably not. Hard to say because theoretically JJ height/size could cause Paul an issue. BUT, JJ has never done anything fighting wise even close to who Paul trains/spars with. I guarantee Paul hits WAY harder than JJ and has way more high level experience. If it's boxing my guess is that Paul would TKO JJ with body shots. MMA would be different potentially but even then, hard to say because Paul actually trains for combat sports, while JJ just...talks.

People need to understand JJ has zero experience. He is a black belt from his dad's gym but you can't find a shred of evidence he ever even fought a tomato can level fighter, because he didn't.

I don't know the first thing about MMA but we can't have a James Johnson thread without one of the nastiest dunks and post dunk interviews of all time:

He said if he could keep the fight on the feet he would win, which is also incorrect but not as crazy as thinking he could beat Bones.

Not a chance. Dude is a fake fighter lol. Jake already knocked out an NBA guy.

Jake at least beat 50 year old Anderson Silva. Silva would sleep James Johnson in a quick minute.

I know for a fact James Johnson would get absolutely eaten alive, regardless of his MMA background.

Let's rephrase what Johnson is actually saying: "I'm willing to talk trash and publicly get my ass whooped for a few hundred thousand dollars if someone who actually has the drawing and star power is willing to get me paid".

What's up with all these fight threads?

Can we get back to basketball. Im not trying to discuss hypothetical fight scenarios with Morris Twins and Jokic Brothers let alone James Johnson and Jon Jones.

James Johnson made $82 million in the NBA so unless he was very irresponsible with his money, I wouldn't think he'd be so eager to get humiliated and physically beaten just for a single 6 figure payday. I'd expect delusion to be a larger motivating factor or he simply believes the fight would never happen anyway so he can trash talk freely.

Jon Jones been caught using steroids multiple times. I dunno how anyone can be a fan of his, let alone consider him the GOAT.
