The only way Love's truly going to improve and get better and have the game slow down for him is with playing time and experience. What he's shown in starts 2 and 3 is extremely encouraging with a lot to build off of.

Rodgers wasn't MVP Rodgers year 1. There's gonna be some growing pains, but hopefully next year comes in even better and more confident.

Obviously wanna see him with his full compliment of weapons for one game, let alone an entire season before we can really judge, but man, sometimes it's ok to be excited and say he's "the guy" (more just waiting to see if he's THE guy) even if it's just based on early returns. Like, does he look the part? Is he physically capable of making all the throws?

He could absolutely stink next week (Saints are a good defense), but it wouldn't suddenly erase the flashes we've seen already. I mean, he's literally leading the league through 2-weeks in passer rating, passing TD's, and adjusted yards per-pass attempt all while playing with a shorthanded offense. That's not really the profile of a "game-manager" type, i.e. I've already seen enough to toss out the Jimmy G comparisons (he was never the kind of talent Jordan is).

How is he somehow #31 on that list and #25 on this list? It's like these subjective ratings are subjective.

Actually a better question is how is Dak 1 on the first list and 22 on this :)

Different stats.
Advanced passing accounts for yards downfield and Dak is 30th of 32 with 5.3 yards per attempt. So he's very accurate with dump offs, the king of checkdowns.

Jordan has looked amazing given the guys he's thrown too. We have the least experienced set of receivers in the league and our primary guy(Watson) has been out.

He is above average/good/great already at hitting a guy on a crossing route on a play action. He can drop a nice fade route in.

When we are losing/down by 7 and it's a bunch of passing downs in a row, can he move the ball up and down the field?

I admit that I missed a good deal of the Bears game, so this may be incomplete.

In the Bears game, he was great on 3rd and relatively long.

Would have liked to have seen something more out of him on the last drive than a quick 4 and out, but the media's darling QB, Herbert, has been pathetic in back to back weeks in those scenarios, so we'll see.

As frustrating as it was to lose that, it was nice to see him get an opportunity in that scenario. Hopefully a learning experience, b/c getting a fg there for someone like Rodgers was basically automatic for a majority of his career.

Yea, you gotta click over to Accuracy.

Either way, there's a discrepancy in the numbers and rankings.

Accuracy/ball placement has always been my primary concern with him, going all the way back to the draft and every time we've seen him in game action. It's not just the result, but also something about the delivery and arm angle, that makes me think it's going to be hard for him to be consistently accurate and not occasionally "shank" a ball.

That said, I think his vision and timing and instincts have been incredible, and that's far more important. I will gladly live with an occasional off-target pass if my QB has his poise and decision-making. It will result in leaving yards on the field, but because of his decision-making and vision, I don't think it will lead to excess interceptions, which would be the real concern. He's already more than making up the difference, obviously.

Love's accuracy issues are weird. He's 32nd in CPOE but only 30th in expected completion %. So he hasn't been very accurate but he also hasn't been throwing to many guys who are open

Fair to point out that they're only 1-for-7 on big plays, i.e. passes 20+ yards in the air (the Musgrave stumble-catch) so far. But all this stuff is small sample size still and that's really the area of the field where you're missing Watson the most. Plus I could already count at least 2-3 of those throws (Musgrave and I wanna say Wicks?) where it was equally if not more on the receiver for slowing up on their route. On the intermediate stuff, he's been absolute money. Even the failed 4th down conversion that iced the game, Love put it right on Toure's hands with an absolute dime under pressure. He needs to catch that.

Love's game vs Atlanta was weird. You can easily argue his two best throws(to Wicks in the corner of the endzone & the final pass to Toure) were incomplete, and his worst throw(the dropped pick 6 by Terrell) was also incomplete.

One thing I've noticed, the Packers aren't hitting much deep but there's also been very little in the short game, basically all of Love's throws are in the intermediate part of the field so far. His aDot is among the top in the NFL so he's not just getting by on check downs and being a game manager

Bukowski on the LOP podcast was saying it's the basketball equivalent of the offense thriving on mid-range jumpers and says they need more "layups and threes", which I thought was kinda funny but also not sure I agree with it (give me 1st downs over checkdowns any day). However, it does bring up a good point that on those final 2 drives, I don't think MLF did Love any favors with the play-calling. There didn't seem to be a lot of underneath options.

They badly need Watson back to open up more underneath stuff. It would also help a lot if Dillon wasn’t worthless, but that’s not happening.

How much of the 4th quarter letdowns were connected to the pinch-hitters on the left side of the Oline? To my eye-test, there was some expected inconsistency in the protection there, which also carried over to the run game. I have no metrics to support that notion though.

We had two (I think) pass interference calls and two more that could/should have been called. Need to at least factor that in on the plus 20 yard attempts

This is a concern. Atlanta just felt more like Rodgers dropping back and looking downfield instead of taking what's given with rhythm throws. The problem there is that Love isn't Rodgers. We don't need this to be a habit right now. As we get deeper into the season the more tape on Love means the more for him to navigate.

FWIW, that first PI which was called on that first deep shot was an EXCELLENT toss. As was that throw to Wicks (I think) in the corner of the endzone that probably should have been PI.
