3rd - 7th best players in 2015-16 season

Post#1 » by rk2023 » Wed Sep 20, 2023 1:29 am

Curry would be my clear 2nd, LBJ my clear 1st.

After that, Durant Kawhi Green Westbrook Paul would be my 3-7 - though I’m not quite sure how I would order them (hence the question).

How would you all rank these 5?

Closer to guys like Paul George or Irving than to the top 6 (7 if healthy Paul), IMO.

He's not the ISO god he would become in later seasons, probably weaker defensively as well (can't be hidden on a big man).

Probably one of the most underrated achievements in the past 25 years. He was basically making like three stepback threes per game. He shot 40% on threes after touching the ball for 6+ seconds (5 attempts a game  ), 40% on threes after 7+ dribbles (4 attempts per game) something you just don’t see.

1.22 PPP would be in the 89th %ile for SPOT UP PPP, and nobody who played a lot of games and had 4+ spot up possessions per game broke 1.14 PPP in 2018. 84% of all his FGs were made unassisted.

The 2017 GS Warriors scored 1.15 points per possession. With Steph, KD, Klay, and Draymond on court, it was an incredible 1.26 points per possession. It was an incredible offense. In 2018, Harden generated 1.22 in ISO. League average points in ISO in 2017–2019 has been between .86 and .87 points per possession. Harden’s scoring in ISO generated about 42% more points per possession than league wide average AND 6% more points per possession than the 2017 Warriors as a team did per possession. Steph/KD/Klay/Draymond on court in 2017 produced only 3% more points per possession than Harden did in 2018 dribbling the ball around and taking stepbacks. This is absolutely wild.

I'd go KD, Kawhi, Westbrook, CP3 and Green in that order between those 5. I don't think Green was better than Harden, Dame, AD, George or Butler though.

I think I have KD over Russ too, mostly on the strength of his defense

3. KD
4. Draymond
5. Westbrook
6. Kawhi
7. CP3

Can't really ignore CP3's injury. I think there's a very strong argument Kawhi was slightly more valuable than Westbrook in 2016 tbh, but it's splitting hairs either way.

2015-2016 Draymond is the most underrated season in modern NBA history. Could even argue he was 3rd(but you can't ignore the suspension in the finals).

38.8% from three that year proceeds to immediately drop to 30.8% 30.1% 28.5% 27.9%

My top 6 would be
1.) James
2.) Curry
3.) Durant
4.) Paul
5.) Leonard
6.) Westbrook

#7 to me would be between Green, Harden, and Davis. Do wonder how Green's outlier shooting and playing in a perfect situation to maximize his skillset/impact should weigh into this. I'd personally go Green here but could be argued into taking any of the 3.
