Should you make the hall if you've never once made an all NBA first team?

He is for sure knocking on the door. But I think he needs a meaningful playoff run to support it.

Basketball HOF has ridiculously low standards compared to baseball and football.

Maybe the Baseball and Pro Football HOF have ridiculously high standards compared to the Basketball HOF.

Thats the way it should be. The HOF should be the best of the best, not just "solid all-stars that had long careers"

His Raptors stretch was his best in terms of playoff success, but he usually played poorly in the playoffs. He's closer to a Joe Johnson than any of the truly elite guys.

But what he does have is longevity, consistency, and being healthy basically all the time.

As a result of that and his now genuinely elite scoring ability he's 39th all time in points in the NBA. Everyone around that range until Lamarcus Aldridge is either in or will get into the HOF. Aldridge is 46th and won't make it, but Demar has a bunch of seasons to go still.

He got 1800 points last year, his scoring game is likely to age well cause it's not based on athleticism. He averaged 24 a game last year. If he conservatively managed to get 4000ish more points in his career he will be at around 26000. Which should land him right around 25th all time. There is absolutely no one who has not made the HOF with that many points.

Will he make it? Should he?

IMO people are highly underestimating how hard it is to be 25th all time in NBA scoring

I tend to wish we had an NBA HoF that had more stringent criteria so we could celebrate greatness. If you acknowledge that the HoF is more of a career achievement award, then it's pretty clear that Demar should get in based on counting stats.

From a Toronto perspective, I think it's sad that you're sad. He was a strong advocate of the city and the Raptors and didn't want to leave. I don't think he's a slow learner, rather he is limited by his talent level and everything he gained was due to his very high work ethic, which if it weren't for hard work, he would not be sniffing 26,000 career points.

As for his choking in the playoffs, while that may be true, so did his friend Lowry who is considered one of the GOAT Raptors player. Lowry's reputation improved drastically after winning the Championship, which has much to do with playing with Kawhi. My 2 cents is if Lowry goes into the HOF, then so should DeRozan.

The Hall of A Little Above Average, as long as you do it for long enough.

Nah. Nobody looks at Lowry as that guy. He was important, but DeRozan was the one with the weight of The North on his shoulders, Lowry never felt that. Was always a supporting character.

And by nobody you mean pretty much every single Raptors fan. Lowry was always a far more impactful player and in the playoffs even the box score stats favored Lowry. Raw ppg is literally the only argument for Derozan

Him and Lowry did spearhead a 56 win 2nd seeded East team to the ECF and won 2 games against the eventual NBA champions. He dropped b2b 32pt games on great efficiency to win both home games before losing in 6.

Were their numbers atrocious in the first and second round? Yes of course, but they still pulled out both series in 7 games.

I think Deebo will ultimately get in. He won't be a first round ballot selection (unless its a weak class) but his accolades are good enough and he may be able to sneak in another all star selection this season. It's a shame that the development he made to his game while in San Antonio is being wasted on a Chicago team decimated by Lonzo's mysterious injury.

It's really more of a function of baseball and football rosters being much larger than basketball rosters so if they're putting in the same number of people per year then they have a larger pool to pull from

Basketball HOF is basically the hall of very good so he will get in. Standards arent that high.

yes, he is going to get in

imo his most recent All Star selection was basically a "HoF favor" from the NBA and coaches who are acknowledging that he is one of the most prolific and talented scorers of the 2010s, has had a great career being the #1 option on Toronto teams that made the ECF and singlehandedly turned around Chicago as their clear best player.

And he's probably got one or two more All Star selections in him, maybe even an All NBA.

He's a HoF lock imo

Hell no. DeFrozen couldn't get past LeBron as a Raptor. He couldn't get past Jokic as a Spur. Now he can't get past Giannis as a Bull. I'll admit I'm extremely biased since my hatred for DeFrozen is strong because of the LeBronto series in 2018.

If you are a product of the one and done generation you have the inherent advantage of coming into the league 2-3 years earlier than the vast majority of players in NBA history.

In addition to that, if you are of the modern generation, you have the advantage of modern medical, health, diet, and fitness technology allowing you to extend your career much longer than most players in NBA history were able to.

If you have those advantages over every previous generation of NBA players, you can have a career scoring average of 21 points per game, virtually zero noteworthy playoff success, have average to negative career impact data, be considered rather one-dimensional and a poor defensive player, and still have a shot at the hall of fame based solely on being top 25 all-time in one cumulative statistic, all of which will soon be littered with modern day players that would never have previously been considered hall of fame caliber players without the aforementioned longevity advantages propping up their place in the all-time rankings.

Aside from the players that got into the hall of fame based primarily on their international or college resume, if DeRozan were to get into the hall of fame, I believe it would be the worst career resume of any player currently in the hall of fame that played in the league in the last 30 years.

This has to be a joke.

Anybody that watched the Raptors knew Lowry was the alpha leader and most impactful player on the team. It wasn't really close.

Unless I missed it: I'm really surprised that no one else referenced Basketball Reference's Hall of Fame Probability!!

They actually predict that he currently has less than a 50% chance of getting in. Some names who score a higher likelihood include Rondo, Shawn Marion, and Joe Johnson.

Lol, that list is interesting.

Butler for some reason only has a 72% probability when he should be a 1st ballot hall of famer.

Jokic is only 86% when he's already a two time MVP and champion and easy 1st ballot hall of famer if he retired today.

Kevin Love is ahead of Butler and Klay, which doesn't make sense.

Umm. No.

Derozan was the most overrated aspect of those Toronto teams.
