Not sure Duncan and Splitter would be able to hang defensively

Why wouldn't they? And Splitter/Duncan would be staggered.
The Warriors pre-KD weren't all-time great for playoff offenses. Their defense was performing better.

Hard to say. Do the Spurs play at their 2014 finals level?

I’m with GoatRises007 in that I’d assume that series ends up being a defensive slugfest

I'd have to bet on the Spurs vets in a series between them.

2012-13 Warriors gave the Spurs their only L’s in the western conference playoffs and that was with an MJax coached team.

The 2014 Mavs took the Spurs to 7 in the 1st round.
Then the Spurs smoke the Heat in 5 in record fashion.
Using 1 isolated series to predict future series isn't conclusive at all.
There's plenty of examples of lesser teams pushing stronger teams to 6-7 and the stronger teams then fare better vs better opposition in comparison.
2001 Lakers destroyed the Spurs more than they did the Sixers.
The Celtics dispatched the Lakers in 6 in 2008, but were outscored by the Cavs in their 7 game series.

The 2015 spurs were 2-1 in the regular season vs warriors in 2015.The spurs were also 4-0 in the regular season vs warriors in 2014.

Re: 2014 Spurs vs. 2015 Warriors
Good question. The Warriors didn’t get over their Spurs phobia until the end of the 16 season. On the other hand, they played better against SA in their one playoff series, than they did in the regular season.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Counterpoint, the 2015 Spurs were the only team to beat the 2015 Warriors twice in the regular season. The Warriors became a bad matchup for the Spurs when Draymond took off in 2016, before that I though the Spurs matched up with the Warriors pretty well.
If the 2015 Spurs had won their last regular season game in New Orleans they would have been the #2 seed and faced that Dallas team with Rondo that completely imploded, rather than being the #6 seed and playing the Clippers without homecourt. I honestly think that the Spurs repeat in 2015 if they win that last regular season game, but maybe the fact that they couldn't beat the Pelicans in that scenario means they just didn't have it that year.

They were both relatively slow and weren't great coming up to the level of the screen
I don't remember Timmy ever looking too comfortable facing Steph, but I could be wrong

well those mavs happened to defend the spurs in a completely different way than miami did(and was arguably vinicated by how modern teams now defend)
the weaker version of the warriors being competitive is worth pondering

Yeah I think it's more important to think about why these results occurred (i.e. what actually happened on the court) than anything as simple as 6 games < 7 game

Re: 2014 Spurs vs. 2015 Warriors
I feel like the 14 Spurs stock was elevated quite a bit in the eyes of the public by annihilating Miami in the FInals with a +15.0 rORtg. Going 7 games with Dallas and 6 games with OKC with an injured Ibaka doesn't make them look invincible. If anything they were vulnerable to the young athletic Thunder as evidenced by the 2012 and 2016 encounters. The Clippers in 2015 also gave them fits. When healthy in the regular season they were a historically great team but I think they were vulnerable to athletic teams and in particular quick players like CP3 and Westbrook.
The 15 Warriors avoided both the Spurs and Thunder in the playoffs so they were never quite tested. And without KD, Golden State offenses tended to get worse in the playoffs. Curry himself couldn't quite maintain his GOAT-level regular season impact.
At the end of the day I actually think the Warriors defend the Spurs a bit better than vice versa. None of the Spurs bigs could hang with Curry on the P&R swtiches. Spurs could get hot shooting the ball and win a couple of games but Warriors could get hot too. Klay in particular erupted a lot in the playoffs.

Exactly. I think they matchup pretty well.
Curry would be a headache but Nash was even a bigger one for Pop. He would try to slow the game down exactly like in the RS games won. 2014 Pop was not that sclerotic yet and I don't think Kerr was that impressive.
it wouldn't be like 18 Rockets trying to beat Warriors at their own game, like Djoker is claiming, that's for sure.

My point was just that the 2015 Warriors are also a really good 3pt shooting team like the 2014 Spurs.
There is barely any similarities in how they play.
