Like he's obviously not Mariano Rivera or Trevor Hoffman (or even Roberto Osuna), but you're not getting anything better than this guy outside the organization without paying a massive, massive price. I'm not even sure what the point of the discussion is.

Texas bullpen is doing their thing.
If KC and Texas can both hang on today, our playoff probabilities (per Fangraph) will shoot over 95%.

You are correct. Hicks has been tremendous for nearly two months now. You compare the numbers of Romano vs. Hicks since August 1st, and Hicks has been the better reliever.

What am I reading in this thread? Romano is just an above average pitcher? Hicks makes people feel more comfortable despite Romano posting better numbers across the board (K/BB ratio, FIP, ERA+, WHIP, SV%, etc.) for his career as well as this season?
Romano has legitimately been a top 10 reliever in his career thus far and he has still been very good this season even in a bit of a down year. It's like people only remember the past few weeks in which Romano has admittedly been pretty shaky while Hicks has been rolling. We shouldn't be ignoring the other 200+ games of their careers though.

Royals need one more scoreless inning. Could they do it?

Romano has really been fine for the past two weeks too. He had a massive 2 inning scoreless appearance in extras last weekend against the Red Sox with the Manfred runner on in both the 10th and 11th, which effectively won them the game.
The whining makes no sense.

You're giving me their WHIPs over a 2 month period, there's no doubt about that.

The Trop is Vladdy's house now. Is anyone scared of playing this trash team in their oversized tent anymore? Should be an easy 2-game sweep for us.

Fangraphs now has us at 95% chance of getting in after updating Today's win... this is before any Seattle or Texas loss.
We might be at 98% at the end of the day.

Yep, this board is exhausting sometimes. Jays just had the biggest series win of the season and somehow the conversation is about a non existent problem with Romano. I think Hicks has been great for them, but so has Romano——despite how a couple people on here “feel” when he comes in, while ignoring stats—and hicks hasn’t been put in nearly as many tight spots, where his control issues could show up (for example, the random 2 out walk today isn’t as big of a deal when they are up 4 vs all the 9th inning or extra inning games Romano has come in up 1/2 or tied and got them through)

Re: GT: Blue Jays @ Rays - Sept 22 - Sept 24
Hicks has not given up a run over a month (August 25th). Romano has had a few shaky outings since that time, with his tendency at times to allow Runners on Base with hard contact and Walks when he has difficulty locating pitches. People are talking about Romano being a better pitcher for his career, and since 2020- but I am focused on the here and now. Romano has been solid this year, but outside his shaky first appearance on August 1st, Hicks has been a better pitcher than Romano numbers wise.

McCarthur closes it for the Royals. 13 straight innings now without allowing a run.
Looks like Houston and Seattle will both be swept!
We could be clinching the playoffs perhaps on Thursday against the Yanks, making our series against the Rays meaningless.
