Too much overlap in Pascal and Barnes games. And a front court of Yak, Pascal and Scottie would be horrible for spacing. If this was the teams front court, Pascal’s 3pt shooting will need to improve.

Yes, I agree., it’s not a perfect roster construction. It’s just Siakam is a much better player now and fits Dames timeline more. I can’t imagine Lillard coming over to play with no all stars. I’d trade Scottie before trading Siakam.

Probably doesn't matter much anyways because it sounds like OG could be the one moved. One of the greatest benefits of having Dame on the Raps would be just his presence around the younger players.

Saw this with Kawhi. He instilled confidence in the players around him, and showed them how to win. All of the players had a different level of confidence after that year with Kawhi.

In 2017-2018, we were 1st seed and got swept by lebron in the 2nd round.....so we went and got Kwahi to put us over the top the following season.

What make you think we could do it again with Damian Lillard this time? Last year we lost the play in game!!!!
How can we convince Damian Lillard to stay he's getting traded to here?????

   I'm confused right now.

As someone who’s watched Dame for over a decade, this whole “Dame will make it ugly” is all agent bull ****. Goodwin is bad at his job, and he’s trying to put a persona on Dame he’s spent over a decade proving he’s the opposite of. So unless Dame is a totally different person in the last 6mo, he would show up and be a pro.

The only real reasons Dame doesn’t want to play for Toronto is;

1) Masai. Dame is close with DeRozen, Goodwin is ReRozen’s agent. Goodwin hates Masai for how the Leonard that situation was handled.
2) Taxes. Dame has a zero percent income tax in Florida, a 53% (I heard, haven’t fact checked) income tax. When making 60mil… I get it.

Those reasons would be real for saying no to Toronto for Dame. And honestly Goodwin too. He’s got just as much of a reason to want that zero % income tax. It’s a real reason some teams get players on the regular that others don’t. When Vegas gets a team, they’ll get stars left right and center, just watch.

The next CBA should have some sort of a condition for evening income tax across the league to stop this from being an unfair advantage just because of the state they’re in. Maybe a legal reason they can’t do that?

Of maybe it’s not a major influence factor and I’m just getting old. Idek anymore.

The tax stuff is a bit misleading, since Canada is a different country. There is no state tax in florida but Dame will still be paying a ton of federal taxes. Lets say he pays 40% in federal tax, thats not much different than the combined ~50% he'd pay here.

If we learned anything this past playoffs, its that undersized guards that can't play defense are not worth that much. Examples being D-Lo from the Lakers and Poole now on the Wizards. The teams best lineups were them on the bench in big games. Definitely a Miami guy lol.

The funny thing is we won a championship when OG was sidelined, so what does that say?

It says we had a sophomore player who was unable to play, and fortunately we had a guy by the name of Kawhi who was eating up a lot of those SF minutes in the playoffs.

Exactly. Also against Philly when Fred was horrific we play OG big minutes in that series instead. With OG that series doesn't go 7. OG would have been another guy to throw at Giannis since Pascal is to light to defend him. When Green was struggling with his shot and you still wanted size you play OG. We win the title playing less games with OG. Just think about it now if Kawhi came back we win back to back. OMG we were deep. Kawhi, Pascal, OG, Powell, Fred and the last good season of Lowry, Gasol, Ibaka and Green who would have come back if Kawhi did. We took the Celtics to the final minute of game 7 in round 2 in 2020 with Pascal playing horrible. Dammit Kawhi LOL.

Appreciate the context. That probably means he’d be around OR taxes when you combine Fed+State. Still not ideal when you can just not pay State (fact checked by myself who refuses to live in a state with State taxes).

Lmao. Dame has never had a single serious calf injury. Maybe had one, but the only serious injury he’s ever had his is abdomen tear. After surgery and a year off, he had his best season ever.

Anyone deriding Dame for injury history is talking out their arse. Or terribly uneducated on why he was sat to end last season

Welcome to the board. I see you are familiarizing yourself with the locals.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Come on guys aren't we all tired of disgraceful offensive home performances for all our sports teams? Lillard would potentially solve 1 out of 3

Would be cool if it actually happens, OG is replaceable, sorry... Kind funny how similar this is to the Kawhi trade, a couple weeks of rumours leading up, then it happening... hope this happens as well

Really think Pascal is the guy Toronto should want to center the deal around. I'm not disputing he's, by far, the best player we got right now but having potentially two supermaxes would be suffocating.

Having Dame foster the next gen of team leaders in Scottie and OG would be a boon. Add in whomever is left amongst GTJ, Precious, Dick and Koloko - you find yourself with not only a better balanced team immediately, but keeping a promising future intact.

From Portland's perspective, getting Pascal (and being in the best position to resign him), Ayton via a three-way and some prospects/picks is a nice return.

This is what I think Masai also feels may happen.

If they keep GTJ in the deal (Likely IMO) then resign him in 2024 they could offer Barnes + GTJ + picks for Giannis during the 24/25 season - only happens if Giannis wants out but few teams will have a better offer.

OKC will be the real risk in a bidding war for the freak.

I feel like if they wanted Pascal, they would agreed to the #3 swap to pair him with Dame.

They leaned into the youth movement which makes sense so I doubt they want him.

Return to Toronto Raptors
