Ramona Shelburne Reporting Stern Forced Rubin Into Sixers to Control Team

Rubin was a late addition to the group, he says, "placed" there by former NBA commissioner David Stern.

The league was facing a long lockout, and Stern was still acting as the owner of the New Orleans franchise after George Shinn went bankrupt and was forced to sell it back to the league. Rubin was a guy the NBA had done business with since 1999.

"David said, 'Michael, I thought about this. You need to go in and be a real partner,'" Rubin recalls. "I said, 'Why?' And he said, 'Because if anything goes wrong, you work for f---ing me and I can control you. And so you're f---ing doing this, because I need someone in this group that I control.'"

We've been used by the NBA.

Wow, that’s such a fascinating quote. Why would Rubin admit in an ESPN article that he was under the control of David Stern & the league office?

It makes him look like a stooge & could definitely complicate his relationships with players like Embiid.

Rubin sucks. Sports memorabilia is forever garbage now.

NBA controls Rubin
Rubin controls the players

Stern is RIP so Rubin doesnt care. It just makes him sound relevant with his business that sixersbro describe accurately
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Everybody hates Dan Snyder so much that someone actually took the time to write an article to try and make Josh Harris sound like a regular person

Now that they have the Commanders... don't suppose they want to sell the Sixers? Harris Blitzer can focus on their "hometown" football team.

Same guy that awkwardly interrupted a meeting to make a joke at the guy cleaning the windows right? Funny how quick narratives change.

I remember when he had to be shamed by Embiid into paying his employees during the pandemic. But now he’s a wholesome owner who cares about more than money.

Don't you feel sorry for me?

My fellow Skins fans think we got some really good owner. My hope is that at some point, he'll sell the Sixers.

The NBA has jerked the Sixers around for years and people still pour their heart and soul into this league as if it's a legitimately run operation.

Shady stuff happens in all sports, but there is no league I trust less than the NBA.

I used to roll my eyes 20 years ago when people would clown my interest in the NBA and tell me the league was the WWE but now I gotta throw my hands up and admit they were right.

Yeah. If I understand correctly, Stern basically told Rubin he is a weak man that can be easily controlled, then ordered him to join the ownership group. Now Rubin is telling the story publicly, and he confirming Stern’s suggestion was true by joining the ownership group as Stern ordered. Strange relationship there.

In a meeting and blurts out something like 'this is why we went to college'. Can't recall where I read it, couple years back.
