Re: Damian Lillard Trade Request Part 3
Doncic, Giannis, Embiid are all going to be getting to that Dame stage at some point if things don't change. Now that's where you use your best assets.
Do Ingram and or Zion become available at some point?

Not only is OG the best player and best asset they'll get but the Raptors draft picks going forward will most likely
be more valuable then the Miami picks with the uncertainty of Dame being happy here. Even if they're worried about
OG not resigning there they can easily flip him for another 2-3 first round picks.
With all the young talent they already have plus all the draft picks they could get plus possibly even getting Gradey Dick
from us they could almost start looking like the next OKC if Scoot develops like Shai.
I mean what's the hold up with Miami? Nikola Jovic? I wouldn't want to trade a future HOF player centered around
a "mystery box". I'd also rather have a 6'8 Gradey Dick on a rookie contract then 6'5 Tyler Herro making big money.
What is the hold up? doing right by Dame? the guy asked to be traded and to one team only hurting the Blazers. At
that point loyalty should be gone plus managements job is to do what's best for the team.
OG is certainly the better player but i don't know if he's the better asset. No team is going to give 2-3 FRPs for OG on an expiring deal with no hope of an extension.
What asset does Miami have that's better then OG? last year at the deadline OG was one of the most coveted players
at the trade deadline Masai seriously considered trading him for that haul of draft picks but might've been to greedy.
I don't think his value will plummet because he's gone from 1.5 years from Free Agency to 1 year. Even if the draft picks
offer is off the table you could still trade him in other creative packages. Does anyone even really want Tyler Herro?
are we sure Jovic is gonna be better then Gradey Dick?

/Edit Twitter post was deleted. Bill Simmons did a podcast about the Lillard/Toronto rumors and said some juicy-ish things.
With all the OG trade rumors I found this Bill Simmons info on OG interesting. Is OG a source of bad chemistry? He is one hard to read guy, but not sure why Simmons speculates here.
Simmons and his host both like Toronto trading for Lillard. They doubt Scottie as a future efficient scorer.
Says OG is an awesome 3rd guy, but should only be a $20m guy and Toronto is going to have to pay $40m to keep him which is the worst.
Greatest quote alert, referring to Gradey being the centre-piece of the trade for Lillard:

Portland should want OG and Ayton somehow. Who would Phoenix want coming back with Nurk? Koloko maybe? Makes for a very good centre rotation around their stars.

If he is playing hardball, it is only because the team cannot strip down everything for Dame. The Raps also need a roster around him that is within the salary limits.
So to take on Dame, the team needs to either be offering Siakam (+ Thad) or OG & GTJ (+ Thad), plus whatever pick compensation. The team cannot be offering all of their younger players on rookie deals because they need them to backfill the players going out.
And trying to bundle the young players with salary filler that is not Siakam, OG or GTJ, will require half the team to be moved, which is also not feasible as the season approaches.
I think Masai makes his offer, and Portland takes it, or something less from another team.

Re: Damian Lillard Trade Request Part 3
Embiid/Harden
Butler/Bam
Tatum/Green
Siakam/Lillard
The only player in this list who has consistently been able to lift his teams is Jimmy Butler. The Raptors would just fall in amongst these teams and probably slot lower since Butler, Embiid, maybe Tatum all are better players overall than either Lillard or Siakam.
If this trade doesn't happen, oh well at least we have youth to look forward to.

I think Simmons is out of touch with the league these days. I bet if someone challenged him in a 1 on 1 conversation, he would be exposed quickly.

The glass is half full. The Dame rumors at least killed a couple weeks before camp. Plus, media day interviews will be hilarious as Toronto beat reporters will be asking variations of "so how close was the Lillard deal from happening?"

The Butler love has just gone way to far lmao
Butler in the post-season lifts his game to the same level that guys like Embiid/Taum especially play all year long.

I think Suns want anything that will add depth to their team. Their roster is Durant, Booker, Beal, Ayton (who would be replaced by Nurkic) and the rest minimum salary players that are either questionable in terms of their play (never get solid rotation minutes) or old (Gordon).
I'm sure they would be happy to get GTJ, just as a 6th man, who could consistently play minutes for them.
The other benefit is GTJ and Nurkic contracts might be easier to move in a future deal since they are in the $18M to $20M range.

It's very easy to Google the roster Butler has played with over the last four years vs the other players and how good they ended up being when the season ended.

I'm perfectly ok with it, and ok if we extend Pascal while we're at it.
In fact, for the preseason opener in Van, I'm probably 50-50 that I'd like to see this lineup. Only because I've been talking and dreaming about point-Scottie + depth for a while now an I'm incredibly curious to see how it looks.

I always thought Simmons was a mix of good entertainment with some good basketball sense. I don't buy any OG slander, but I kind of agree that we shouldn't overpay for him, and Barnes has his highest value now and he may not ever become an elite scorer like Kawhi.
I think including Barnes in a Lillard deal would swing the trade in our favour and it would have been a done deal because today a Barnes offer trumps everyone.
I think in a year from now if we don't trade for Lillard, those up and coming teams like OKC, Orlando, will eventually make a splash with other marquee players and getting a guy like Lillard will be a dream for Toronto.

i am not looking forward to watching that team at all. Even worse shooting and playmaking than last year. looks like a play-in team at best.

Who's the best player Lillard has ever played with LaMarcus Aldridge? and he's spent his non rookie years
battling the Golden State dynasty in a loaded Western Conference. Embiid has never been out of the 2nd
round and has played with guys like Butler and Harden.
I'd put Lillard in the same tier with all those guys you mentioned.... they're not in that Jokic/Kawhi/Durant/Curry/Lebron/Luka
tier but the next level down.
