You love to see it.

How can you "not be that high" on Dame? He is a solidified top 10 player for last 10 years and is coming off a 32 ppg season on insane efficiency

I had a feeling we weren't going to win another championship with Jrue's offense being garbage in the playoffs, and an unproven coach. This trade has me believing again. You could have Mr. Magoo coaching this team after getting Dame and still have a chance of winning it all again. Love Jrue, but this had to be done.

Exactly. Let's not act like anybody here thought this deal was on the table.

I'll shut up forever about Horst though.

Even if not for Dame, there were a few of us who said no....you don't trade the future picks unless you get an elite player. Trading a pick in 2029 when Giannis could be gone makes no sense unless it's in a move like this.

This trade is a complete anomaly and it's amazing but i bet that 1st would've been traded for something a whole lot less appealing if this didn't go down. It makes sense in a world where Giannis is demanding more talent which is the world we're in.

Thought this would take more picks & Marjon. Bizarre, unless Portland is getting more out of moving Jrue.

Horst did an amazing job pulling this off while not giving up any of the following: 2024 Blazers 2nd, Pat, Bobby, AJJ, and Marjon.

Maybe they make another move to try and land Heild, but rolling as-is, tossing Pat or Beasley into the starting lineup works as well. Bobby does have a lot of value in the regular season for the games that Giannis is load managed.

They don't win the title in 2021 without Jrue, but some people are ignoring how bad Jrue was offensively in 2022 and 2023 playoffs. And he was torched in the 23 playoffs on defense. Outside of Giannis' injury, Jrue was probably the biggest reason they lost to the Heat. They just flipped him plus the guy who outside of the Midds injury was the biggest reason they lost to the Celtics the prior year plus one first for a top ten player who is probably the second best shooter in the history of the league.

Portland will get a haul for Jrue. Portland already knows this. And frankly, Portland can win now if they want, they made out great with Ayton, Jrue and picks.

Said it in a previous thread. Lillard is our new Anthony Mason. The value is good, but I wish we could have gotten rid of Middleton instead. Holiday could have saved Lillard more on defense, and we could have shored up the wings more easily with Beasley, Marjon, etc.

Oh well, gonna be super exciting and screw Miami. At least we have that.

They are definitely flipping Jrue. Normally I would think they would have made the Bucks do the legwork on that and sort out getting them young players/picks instead, but the Blazers wanted this done before media day on Friday.

Great and bold move, let's go for the second championship

we have to be healthy
let's hope the coach is good, he has the assets to work with
we need a good 3 and D SG. Can Marjon play that role?

I would trade now Portis for a mobile defensive big even if he is worse offensively

I think everyone would have preferred to keep Jrue over Midds, simply based on the injury factor. That said, Jroy and all of the NBA media predicted we didn’t have enough to get this done. In the end, we did.

Jrue may end up in Boston or Miami or Philly.

But I'd rather have Jrue on those teams than Dame.

Another consideration is that Giannis already leaves the door open for leaving as he wants to win. I'm sure he has privately discussed with the front office about what he wants. No doubt that he loves Jrue but the current core ceiling is maximized. It's unrealistic to think that they could suddenly turn back to youth and improve. With the current core they're still championship contender but is not the favourite. This trade should keep Giannis happy and makes the FRP they give up irrelevant.

How could they possibly have done this with Midds instead? He was a free agent, so they had to re-sign him or lose him for nothing and lose the salary slot. Once he was re-signed, they can't trade him for six months. The Blazers wanted Dame traded before this Friday when they have Media Day.

There is no possible realistic scenario where Midds is moved instead.

Plus Midds is 1000x better than Jrue in the playoffs. Midds has 40 point finals games. Offense is way more important than defense in the current NBA. This isn't the 90s.

What? No Khris is the guy you keep, Bucks did this intentionally. Jrue is a terrible playoff performer
