Probably as people have said, wanting to get Ayton out of there (bad vibes), wanting to get off Ayton's contract now for fear that one more season with him quiting on the team makes him a negative asset, possibly luxury tax concerns, and they desperately needed to add some quantity of role players to the quality top end talent of Booker/Beal/Durant.

Ignore rules preventing it, but I'm in the I'd rather give up Jrue than Khris. Jrue has been trash in the playoffs all 3 years. He's one year away from having to hand him a 3-4 year deal into his late 30s. KM is too but he did the team thing and took a reasonable lower deal (jrue might too but we don't know that).

For the risk of Dames age/contract, which is true, it all applies to Jrue too. But obviously Dame is massively better.

Right, at a time when there is no restrictions on trades and a guy who has demanded a trade and is basically being allowed to work with teams on trades. It's almost impossible to tamper in this situation. The extent would be a convo with his agent to say "hey, he's cool coming here if we do it right?". How is that illegal for us to do but ok with Mia to do.

As if the rumor Dame demands Miami or nothing wasn't shady. They realize the league sent a memo out because Riley essentially did something equivalent to tampering.

Before this trade I felt like the top of the east was a bunch of teams (Bucks/Celtics/Sixers/Heat) with 2nd round ceilings, but one of them was going to win the east by default. I agree, this trade puts us a notch ahead of everyone else.
