Jrue Holiday - Double Standard Extraordinare
I don't want to hear people bashing players for requesting/demanding trades, and not speak up about how the Bucks just treated Holiday.
-A respected, loved veteran
-Coming off an All Star season
-Helped the Bucks win a title
-Arguably a better player than Lillard, definitely had a better season last year
-Stated his desire to finish his career in Milwaukee
-Unceremoniously dumped on to a terrible team out of nowhere.
All because Giannis whined and held his team hostage once again and the front office bent the knee and panicked.
Jrue deserved better, but just goes to show you that players are simply trading cards.
Unless this upsets you, I don't want to hear anyone complain when the next player demands a trade.

Re: Jrue Holiday - Double Standard Extraordinare
One thing I won’t forget is the NBA is a business. I had to stop letting player and team decisions bother me. I hate seeing players I like get sent away to non-contenders , I hate seeing stars join other superstars on stacked teams, I hate when players demand trades, I hate when teams take way too long to let a players go. But it is what it is at this point.

That makes a lot of sense for basketball players who do not sign contracts or belong to the player's union.

Jrue is probably going to end up with the Clippers or Heat. He's going to get moved.

Jrue is a poor playoff performer.

Re: Jrue Holiday - Double Standard Extraordinare
Jrue Holiday is a good player but nowhere near the talent of Dame; and Jrue has sucked offensively in the playoffs 3 years in a row to the point of being a liability and hurting his team
Jrue’s inability to score almost cost them the title 3 years ago when they had a pretty clean / easy path, and he was an offensive anchor the last 2 playoff runs
Teams should be allowed to upgrade their roster and compete for championships. Just because someone is a good person and nice doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be traded. I’m also not delusional enough to think Jrue was a better player last year than Dame, which is an absurd take.

Yep and by demanding trades players actually avoid the situation Jrue is in right now. When they demand a trade and limit the options/say they only want to go to contenders or playoff teams it means that their team can't just dump them and they will probably be desired on the team that acquires them.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Unfortunately, Jrue just was not good in the playoffs when it mattered most. Don't get me wrong he always had his defense, but he was way more often than not underperforming in the playoffs on the offensive side.
He averaged 17.9/5.8/7.9 on 39/30/75 splits on the Bucks in the playoffs as the 3rd option.

Jrue is not arguably better than Dame. He’s not better at all. He didn’t have a better season than Dame either. Not even close.
NBA is also a business and these players are paid handsomely to do so. Pretty sure Jrue is getting traded to a contender after this anyway. He’ll be okay.

It’s a business. These guys are paid like Kings to play a game knowing there’s a chance they have to switch cities.
You’re making a big deal out of nothing.

Re: Jrue Holiday - Double Standard Extraordinare
Don't have a problem with a player wanting out, it is demanding a trade to one specific destination after signing a big contract.
I'm glad Lillard didn't go to Miami. If he wants to go to a specific destination he can in free agency. You don't sign a 2 year extension when you already have 3 years left on your deal and then pull that crap a year later.

They can sign one year deals or no trade clauses if they want to control their destination
Your argument is basically ‘Jrue is nice and didn’t want to get traded so he shouldn’t be allowed to be traded’
The entire sport would be way different if trades weren’t allowed. And when you have players like Dame who force their way out; the natural effect is other players get traded who might not want to. Dame is in effect a home wrecker here forcing his way out of Portland.

In an ideal world, no one bitches about anyone wanting and doing what would be best for them in a business environment like the NBA. Whether its players or teams.

Yes, but being traded is part of the possibility when signing NBA contract, right? NBA is basically closed door business with its own rules, and the part that you can be traded is part of the deal, thats part of why you get so much money. But nowhere in the contract that I know of, it states that player can just ''decice'' to not play anymore for the team he signed for, while still getting all the money...
Sorry, but it is not the same, I mean it is weird that America of all places has such weirdly structured sports leagues, there players are basically cattle, but they are very well paid cattle, and I dont think they are victims here, they are not.
Its like in my company, some high paid leaders, they can be moved left and right between cities and projects... It absolutely sucks, but it doesn't mean they can just say, you know, u transfred me so many times where I didnt want to be, so I just transfer myself out of work, but you still pay me, cause we have unterminatable contract. THats just not how it suppose to be, sorry if I sound capitalistic, it shouldn't, players have too much power where they can just at any time decide what I signed for, I not gonna do that, but you still pay me.
Not the same.

Hilarious that so many people complain about players asking for trades and then when a team trades a loyal player, it's just "business".

He’s making 37 mill next year and then has a player option. Bucks really did him dirty alright.

they already won a championship with Holiday- hard to say that he is such a liability if that is the case. Lillard is one of the worst perimeter defenders in the NBA- you have to factor that in.

But you can't trade yourself. You can only ask for one. Thinking people aren't allowed to request to be traded is weird. Yes if a player says he's going to sit out it's wrong, but demonizing "trade REQUESTS" is equally silly. Even in civilian companies, you can request to be promoted or transferred to another location.
