If there's any truth to rumors floating around as far as trade interest I'm betting we can squeeze 2 unprotected firsts for jrue if not serviceable player(s) on top of that

Miami had 3 god damn months to improve their offer. They made the Blazers do the legwork to see what Herro’s trade value was and Miami clearly were set in that they had their final offer already in.
Again, there was zero reason to go back to the Heat here. Even if this made them get their **** in gear and start looking for a Herro deal to improve their offer, at this point they were so far behind schedule, there was no time. They wanted to get this done, Miami knew Portland was having serious discussions with other teams. They didn’t make any effort to reach back out and say they’re working on things to improve an offer. They kept with their opinion Portland would crap out and just take whatever they offer in the end to resolve it before camp.
So yeah, I agree with everything else you said in your first post, but going back to Miami would have been at best a waste, at worst, risking the Milwaukee deal falling apart.
I just don’t see any risk. That Milwaukee offer wasn’t going anywhere. Where would it have gone? There’s not really an alternative for Milwaukee.
I do agree Miami dicked around. They didn’t necessarily DESERVE a chance to up their offer at the last minute. And I won’t deny I do feel some schadenfreude that they struck out. But ultimately I care most about the Blazers getting the best possible deal. Checking back with Miami would have been the better move to achieve that end.
I would recommend listening to GM interviews when they discuss the dynamics of negotiating a trade. It’s a very fluid situation and that Milwaukee trade could have been pulled or maybe with too much time they remove some pieces. It happens all the time and teams put time limits on offers regularly to get deals completed.
So I’m not talking about personal opinion or what I think here, this is how trades work from people who’ve made them. There can be a risk if you take too long on any trade. I’m sorry, but it’s flat out wrong to say “that deal was always going to be there”. That’s just factually inaccurate based on what every GM has said in trade negotiations.
Every situation is different. In this situation I don’t see how that trade would’ve been pulled if Portland said, “give us 12 hours”. There weren’t other avenues Milwaukee could reasonably have pursued as an alternative on Dame’s level.
You’re welcome to think otherwise, but it’s obviously not “factually inaccurate”. C’mon. That’s a ridiculous attempt to turn your position into an absolute one when it’s just an opinion.

We got an all star in jrue on top of picks. I'd say that's a step down from the Dame return

We got a player we don't need, a 1st in 2029, some swaps and Camara. The Ayton portion is Nurk+Little+Keon which could have been done separately. Jesus we got ruined.

Are you kidding if we end up with 2 first for Jrue alone the deal would like.
Ayton
Camara
3 1st round picks
2 pick swaps
That is infinitely better than the Heat package of
Herro
Lowry
2 1st round picks
Unless you are in the boat where you think Herro is a future superstar and are willing to pay him until then that package is way worse. Herro is basically as good as Simons today and you could argue Simons might be slightly better so we really don't need him.

He will he is one of the best defenders in his position in the league and he can score, **** ESPN just had an article that they think wherever Jrue goes could radically change the championship race. So basically Blazers are playing king makers with Jrue assuming they have the contract to trade back.
Anyone that thinks Jrue is just a serviceable player has no clue what they are talking about his only downside is he is getting old.

I'm honestly fine if they did it just to spite a few insufferable Heat fans on these boards who felt entitled to Dame all summer and are now throwing a tantrum.

I and many others think this package is better, we will see once the Jrue trade is finalized. The Blazers are letting teams know he is tradable if any team has an interest. So I assume he will be traded before the season starts, I would be a bit surprised if he is a Blazer when the pre-season starts.
The regular season starts in 27 days so it's not like they only have a few days to trade him.

Re: Dame traded to the Bucks!
It'll be interesting to see this next generation Blazers.
Right now (assuming Jrue gets traded)
SF Thybulle, Knox, Murray
PF Grant, Walker, Camara
C Ayton, Brown
SG (Simons/Sharpe), Thybulle
PG Scoot, Simons
Presumably filler will be coming whatever Jrue Holiday trade gets completed for Portland sent out 4 players
and got back 3

reported on S2...Marc Spears is saying that when Dame's agent found out that Milwaukee and Brooklyn were interested in Dame he told those teams to not convey their interest to Portland because it could "work against them"
Dame's agent is a stinky mixture of slime, stupid, and incompetent. What a scumbag

That might get a look at from the league. Don't know why Goodwin keeps doing stupid stuff like this where it becomes public.

A lot can happen to a team if one of those years in the lottery, leads to another top 3 pick.
Let's say Portland adds Matas Buzelis to next years roster. He's a near 7" player with the G League
Ignite, who would be the front court counterpart for Scoot/Sharpe.

Honestly, Miami's success makes their unprotected future 1st round picks far less valuable than Milwaukee.DiegoChara wrote:DusterBuster wrote:DiegoChara wrote:

If Miami offered everything (Herro redirected, Jovic, Jaquez, 2 firsts, 2 swaps) I do think that’s better than Jrue, a first, and 2 swaps.
I guess depending on what we get for Jrue.
Miami had 3 god damn months to improve their offer. They made the Blazers do the legwork to see what Herro’s trade value was and Miami clearly were set in that they had their final offer already in.

That Milwaukee 1st could become very, very good if Giannis leaves before 2029 (and Dame/Middleton are likely retired).
Miami fans should take that as a compliment.....
Also, I rate Ayton as a significantly more valuable asset than Herro. Both in a vacuum, and also acknowledging me wanting Scoot to have a genuine offensive big man to grow alongside.

I thought that initially, but I disagree.m0ng0 wrote:I don't see why we are celebrating, we got a **** deal unless Camara is a steal... Which is yet to be seen
We dumped Nurkic, who was a negative contract given his injury history (although not that bad really), gained what could be a very good unprotected 1st, and two unprotected 1st pick swaps which could be equally attractive.
We then picked up Ayton who I hoped we'd find a way to bring to Portland. He may or may not reach his potential, but it's well worth the risk imo.
We then picked up Jrue who has strong value in his own right (although definitely not two unprotected 1sts imo).
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
