I need a cap expert here. Having already two supermax contracts (Giannis, Dame) prevents Milwaukee from adding another one?

I wouldn't be upset if we got him, but for what we would have to give up to get him, I would be kind of meh. I would just like it more just from a ''shaking things up'' standpoint after winning 1 single playoff game last season. But I don't know if at the end of the day we would be all that much better with Dame than we would be if we just stood pat.

I would probably be more hyped if we got Buddy. Buddy is underrated and would be a great fit in Milwaukee, and we obviously wouldn't have to give up as much to get him as we would for Dame.

are you bummed about not getting Buddy or feeling ok now? Or still holding out hope for Heild.

New CBA eliminated the two designated supermax restriction.

It’s hilarious Magic fans weee up in arms when I posted a Jrue for their two firsts and mediocre rotation players before the draft. Now he’s dealt for Damian **** Lillard lmao.

I hope that Orlando gives up the moon for Jrue now.

slos wrote:What’s amazing is that it looks like Horst built that roster under the assumption that he will get Lillard. I mean Bucks always had backup PGs for Holiday (Teague, Hill, Carter etc). Doing that for three years on a row and not bothering this offseason getting a PG at all looked weird in the first place.

Now it makes sense. Dame will need the ball in his hands. Midds and Giannis maybe had the ball a bit more than they should in the Jrue era, but you can’t/shouldn’t get the ball out of their hands. Having Midds and Giannis as “backup PGs” solves a lot of issues within this team.

Lillard (36)/Giannis (6)/Midds (6)
Pat (30)/Beasley (18)
Midds (30)/Marjon (12)/Crowder (6)
Giannis (30)/Bobby (12)/Crowder (6)
Lopez (30)/Bobby (18)

Love it.
I agree that I think Horst believed he had a shot at Lillard for a while. I don't think this was at all an overnight surprise for the Bucks organization.

Feel like Jrue ends up a Warrior or a Nugget and we will have to do battle in the Finals.

As much as I think Cam Payne is the no-brainer pickup, I also see the logic behind just getting the best 3&D shooting guard still available. Who's this year's version of 2019-2020 Wes Matthews? Terence Davis?

This is the right thought process. Baring injuries we don't need another ball handler in the playoffs between the big 3. We need a minutes water SG who can defend in the playoffs.

We don't even need that person to be great. Just don't foul and play physical with the top guards. Basically Matthews type player.

So I have it, as other teams by available firsts to give up:

Warriors - 3
Boston - 3
Sacramento - 3
Clippers - 2
Miami - 2
Philly - 1
Lakers - 1
Denver - 0
Phoenix - 0
Cleveland - 0

Is that right? I went to fanspo, but sometimes I don’t think they properly list future swaps.

Two guys that stick out to me is Delon Wright for Bobby. Then Reggie Bullock is all but guaranteed to be bought out at some point.

Sacramento and the Clippers make the most sense and that's where I hope Jrue lands. Lakers I'm sure would love him but they can't trade D-Lo until December. I don't think Miami will be able to swallow their pride and go back to the negotiating table with Portland any time soon. And If they do and I'm Portland, I'm strutting into that room with a big **** eating grin on my face and asking for everything they should have given up for Dame (2-firsts, Jovic, Jaquez, Herro re-routed to a 3rd team) and telling them to take it or leave it.

I’m not sure there’s anyone out there who fits that mold. At least not on the defensive end.

FWIW, I'm basically treating AJ Green and Chris Livingston like they're open roster spots. So I'd still just go out and sign Cam Payne right now, then have a couple expungable salaries to either deal or waive around the trade deadline for buyout guys.

Cam Payne seems like a no-brainer. Would be a really nice depth addition.

Was looking at Stanley Johnson's stats. I thought he was known as a wing defender, but the defensive rating doesn't seem to support that. Anyone watched much of him in recent years?

There is absolutely zero reason to fill that open roster spot immediately, for several reasons. There are still players that need to be waived as teams consolidate, Jrue's next home could cause some more players to become available as teams reconstruct their rosters. Let the young guys get some run early to see what you have with them and then decide on best ways to move forward.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.
