Many if not most will dismiss this as simply due diligence in the event something changed. But if it takes another question, then ask yourself what Giannis and Horst discussed? What did Giannis and Lillard discuss? Was Jimmy Butler joking about collusion? There's more to this story. At minimum, Horst had enough reason to pursue this for 3 months and insist on secrecy to the extent that one of the 3 teams involved didn't know his team's identity. The stuff about Jrue is another ruse. Of course they were honest to Jrue and of course Giannis knew.

Jrue's declaration the day before the trade wasn't coincidence. Portland needed his value cemented.

It's always weird to me when people take reporting from a reporter and decide which parts he's telling the truth on and which parts he's lying on. It would seem either you should trust Woj's reporting or not

They report what they're fed. They're never fed everything.

The parts that would kill the notion of Giannis leaving aren't finding their way into any published article. That story will be told by Giannis when his career ends.

Sure, but it's really weird you just randomly decide what information that their fed is true and what information they are fed is false.

In all honesty, I do buy Horst playing the long game for Dame. Stotts was a good hire regardless, but choosing him over other solid candidates at least left the door open as being a sweetener to get Dame to warm up to the idea of coming here. Robin Lopez helped in getting Brook to ink a new deal, but it also brought another beloved Dame teammate of old. Dare I say he had Dame in mind 5 years ago when he signed Pat off the scrap heap?

Except nothing I'm saying is random or being said for the first time. I've been saying this here for weeks.

You'll apologize if I trust the word of Woj over some random Realgm poster that to my knowledge has no inside information.

This is a weird one. We haven't had a "bad contract" we've needed to get off since the Snell extension. I'd argue outside of that, there's been few if any GM's in the league better at retaining their talent on easily trade-able contracts.

Theres a difference between "bad contract" and "team friendly" imo. While we're retaining our talent, and credit to Horst for that, I do think we're doing so at costs higher than previous GMs have been able to with comparable tracks of team success. The POs attached on every deal will ALWAYS grind my gears.

I'd classify the retainment closer to "market rate" than "team friendly."

You know, I keep thinking about the offensive production we've gotten from our point guard spot in the playoffs in the Giannis era, between Bledsoe and Jrue, and... it just makes me giddy for 23-24 playoffs to start.

Zero complaints on Horst. His legacy though will come down to whether one or two of MarJon, AJJ, etc. can become true 25-30mpg core players. That’s what we need to get two more titles. And if that happens, then he starts to move into the Pantheon with Riley, West, etc.

our top 6 are pretty damn good id kind of like to see the championship teams of the last 10 years and look at guy 7-12 compared to ours? im not sure we need those guys to be much more than regular season filler types as we need them to be core players. i def dont think Horsts legacy will have anything to do with them. in my mind bobby, brook, and patc already have filled the "true 25-30 mpg core player types".... all reclaimed off the garbage heap each one of them.

i know many here wont agree but i think jae and robin make our rotation solid as hell out to 9. we need a backup combo guard and good health. to me thats basically it
