Giannis Antetokounmpo is part owner of Milwaukee’s new Greek restaurant Avli

https://www.jsonline.com/story/entertainment/dining/2023/09/22/giannis-antetokounmpo-is-part-owner-of-new-milwaukee-greek-restaurant-avli/70925451007/

Add another to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s growing list of business ventures. It turns out he’s also an investing partner in Avli, the new modern Greek restaurant that opened in Milwaukee’s Brewers Hill neighborhood on Sept. 20.

Avli confirmed the partnership in an official statement:

“The Avli Milwaukee team is excited and proud to confirm that the group has been working alongside Giannis and his excellent team of professionals, including agent Alex Saratsis and Giorgos Panos, for some time. This has resulted in an investment from their team in Avli Milwaukee.”

The Avli team said it's been a pleasure working with them, noting that the long relationship with Antetokounmpo and Saratsis dates to 2018, when the two first dined at Avli Taverna in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. Antetokounmpo has made regular trips to the restaurant ever since.

Avli even extended a public congratulations to the Bucks star when he signed his $228 million supermax extension in December 2020.

Saratsis, Antetokounmpo’s agent and fellow investor in Avli, announced the partnership with an Instagram post stating that being a part owner of the restaurant with Antetokounmpo and Panos “has and will be an awesome experience.”

Antetokounmpo, who's shared his passion for food from chicken feet to corn dogs, plans to visit the restaurant often. On Avli’s opening night, the two-time NBA MVP shared an Instagram story from Avli with the caption, “I’ll be in there after every game.”

It would be a pretty quick commute. Avli is just one mile from Fiserv Forum. But we’ll wait to see whether Giannis holds true to his sentiment after the Bucks host their pre-season home opener against the Chicago Bulls Oct. 8.

Antetokounmpo’s brother Alex, who was signed and waived by the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this month, has already visited the restaurant, posting Instagram stories showing off Avli’s nighttime patio view of the Milwaukee skyline and touting a few of the restaurant’s menu items, including its take on traditional saganaki (an appetizer featuring warmed — not flamed — graviera cheese with olive oil, lemon and honey-peppered figs). In an Instagram caption, the youngest Antetokounmpo brother called it the "best in the city."

Every year I look forward to this updated list. Kind of bummed Giannis didn't accomplish enough to move up at all this year. Such is life where expectations are championship or bust.

Adding what I wrote on GB:
Giannis is slowing down after being 24 on the 75 list. Part of that is competition is stiffer as you get higher but also he didn't do much the past 2 years. Passed David Robinson and Wade last year but stayed the same this year. If he has a repeat of this year maybe he passes Baylor/Dr. J (NBA only). His floor is #17 (not factoring in Jokic passing him) if he just keeps longevity stats. Ceiling is probably #14 at this point.

If he wins another ring and another MVP he could get to #7, ahead of Bird. Jokic too, in that #7-#8 range.

May not be fair because it encourages super teams, but I don't see 2 titles getting you ahead of Duncan/Shaq. I was being a little conservative with 14 since I think he would be on the same tier as curry and durant but willing to concede to those that think those guys are better. I don't see him winning 3 titles here at this point, but hope I'm wrong.

No one knows what Giannis will do 3+ years from now, might be a lifer.

But now's his best shot to truly anchor himself as the best Buck player ever. 2+ championships will do that as a Buck.

I just read for the first time the last 22 pages of this thread. So many pure gold posts from the usual suspects. They know who they are.

Giannis has bigger IQ and balls than the whole board here combined. He studies the game and knows what it needs to be great. He did what Kobe and Lebron did throughout their careers to push the their front offices to give them the best possible chance to win. They did that without fear of the media and fan critisism or the what if we actually try one more time with the same old group and see etc.

Lilard a superstar in Milwaukee is crazier to me than our 2020 chip with Giannis. That's how much I didn't believe something like that could possible happen and it did happen only because of Giannis. There is ZERO chance our front office would pull a trigger like that without Giannis constanly pushing in the media the whole Summer and making them and us the fans included shiting our pants and there is ZERO chance Lillard agrees to play in Milwaukee without Giannis showing his respect to his game for many years in a row in any kind of opportunity possible.

Giannis did it once and the best we could get for him at that time was Jrue who proved in the end that he was enough for a chip. Giannis now did it twice and the Bucks brought Lilard and best and only true all-star level point guard in his 10 year tenure with the Bucks. Only Curry is a better fit in the NBA with Giannis. This is a modern Shaq and Kobe combo imo.

Giannis really played the long game here, his comments coincide with the timing of the trade and was def in the FO ear about getting Dame to Milwaukee. Giannis picking Dame 1st at allstar was all leading up to this moment. Giannis might have success at GM once he retires

Has Lebron ever had a GM maneuver like what Giannis pulled here?

Then again despite historic level pressure Horst didn't even trade Portland their 2nd back.

He did get Prime AD and brought in Prime Chris Bosh.

I don't think he will care to GM once he retires but he does indeed knows how to play the game the last few years and use his star power for his benefit.
He never had any intention of leaving Milwaukee ever imo but he would have left if the Bucks didn't make either the Jrue or the Lillard trade just to back his words. I'm certain that he was sure that the Bucks were indeed on the same page with him before he started pressuring them.

I had the pleasure of visiting Sepolia neighborhood / the cafe where Giannis used to hangout as a kid..they'd give Giannis sandwiches when he was broke and starting to play ball. The owner, Giannis, and his wife, are very sweet people and said they love people from Milwaukee.

The whole cafe is a shrine to Giannis and his family and Giannis apparently visits when hes back in Greece. Highly recommend stopping by if you are ever in Athens.

It needs to be cleared up the Horst had been talking to Blazers about Lillard since July.

The new york times article came out at the end of august.

Its much more likely that it was all a ploy to get dame and less likely giannis actually wanting out.

I have been as well, including the court with the giant mural of Gianni on it. Very humble neighborhood obviously.

Giannis was arguably the best player in the world and his whole life just got easier by multitudes as a result of 2 massive trades on the eve of the season. More room to operate and less resistance to operate against.

Simply a tremendous week for this man
