Compare this dude to anorexic Chet. I don't think he will be injury prone. His frame is insane.

I wonder what would happen if the Spurs drafted 7'2 Donovan Clingan and put him next to Wemby next year. You wouldn't score in the paint for a solid decade against San Antonio.

He makes 7' Zach Collins look 6'6". With his mobility there arent many bigs around who can slip over that screen.

Yeah he reminds me of younger Giannis when he was just starting to break out. The difference is that Giannis makes 7 footers look slow and weak, Wemby makes them look slow and short. But the end result about is the same.

Remains to be confirmed on the floor, but my gut feel is Wemby is a couple of years ahead of Giannis at the same age.

I fear for these young super tall kids. They come into the league with a crazy height advantage, which means other players will have to be physical to stop them. Nobody wants to be punked by lanky rookies. The Chets and Victors player mold needs a year or two in the gym before stepping into the ring with some of these vets. Theres going to be a lot of hold your breathe moments after a fall, or a collision etc.

The difference with Wemby is, he’s already “been there, done that” with some heavyweight professional centers in Europe. And we have numerous players, Doncic etc., who say that European ball is more physical than the NBA. Wemby knows far more than a US college player about getting pushed around and playing bumper cars with the professional bigs. So he’s already had his year in the gym, except it wasn’t in the gym, it was on the court, where the score mattered. He came out ahead in most of those battles.

You realize Wemby has been playing professionally against grown men in a much more physical league in Europe for years, right? He isn't a regular rookie from the NCAA

The Spurs players have already talked about this and they are all ready to have Wembys back

Will he make an all D team as a rookie? Don't think it's been done since Duncan. Will he be better on D as a rookie than Mobley was? That's what im interested to see. The offense will probably come along slower and have it's ups & downs but defense should be consistent.

He's going to have to play alot harder than he did in that scrimmage to be an all-D player. Of course, it was just a scrimmage. He still looks a bit lost positionally out there. Of course he is 19, so that's to be expected.

I bet he will. He's 2.22m with insane mobility and wingspan, he'll be swatting shots left and right. It's actually unreal to watch, even when he bites on fakes he still blocks people on the way down just because of how long he is. Even when they catch him out of position or his timing is off he still blocks shots just from how far he gets with one step. Sure the first year or two he'll get pushed around a bit, he might get caught ball watching a bit, he might foul more than he should, but it's hard to imagine the Spurs D won't be significantly better overall when he plays, his on/off stats should put him in the discussion right off the bat, easily. I think teams offenses will simply avoid the quadrant he's in like they used to do with Giannis when he was still taking chances on D.
