In theory yes. But he has to learn how to shoot.

And his ball handling. That’s the biggest thing preventing him from being a point guard in my opinion.

That's right Scottie, when you're a team first guy, there is nothing worse than playing with selfish players. 1 down, but the dark clouds remain, will the other change his stat chasing ways? Time will tell.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Listening to Darkos presser, he mentioned that they have worked with Scottie over the summer on his left hand.

What's with this obsession of wanting Scottie to be a point guard?

Tatum entered the league at 19, Scottie entered at 20

I don't expect Scottie to have quite the scoring jump Tatum did because JT has always been much more of a natural scorer & better shooting touch where as Scottie is more a jumbo facilitator.

BUUUT I am really, really hoping & praying for that sort of ascension overall where the basic idea is that it become OBVIOUS that he will in fact be a great player & eventual leader of the team as Tatum, Ja etc did in their 3rd seasons.

Tatum put up 23+ppg to assert himself as the guy who will become the lead scorer (Ja even more so)....personally I'd be fairly happy with Scottie being around 19+ppg as long as those other numbers (rpg & apg) shoot up too as a LOW END, anything less & I'm FAR less excited about his potential. Preferably I'd like to see him be a bit more weighted to his scoring than passing. I'd love he averaged over 20+ppg because then I'll really be pretty damn sold that the dude will be special & wants to dominate. I know it might seem a bit arbitrary but just breaking that 20ppg threshold to me shows a certain level of desire and also obviously consistency to a guy's game & that he's truly holding himself to a high standard night in & night out and showing he wants to be truly great, not just pretty good.

I'm confident he will take a jump because it pretty much sounds like Darko is going to use him as the primary cog, so much so that there's pushback from Pascal about his role as "the best player on the team". One way or the other I think everyone is gonna be really happy with Scottie, I'm just anxious to see how big of a jump will he take?! The part of me that tells myself to "be realistic" says he'll average around 18-19ppg with prob 7 & 7 or something but I don't rule out that it's possible for him to jump to 20-21ppg, 8 and 7, again depending on how assertive will he be CONSISTENTLY. You can check the sig but I'm serious that I wouldn't be surprised if Scottie at least gets his name in all-star consideration (and if he does we all need to vote him in lol).

Honestly idk what this franchise would do without Scottie lol because unless they trade for AJ, he's about the only reason I'll tune in.

Is this a genuine question? Scottie has played and wanted to play point guard since high school, everyone knows this.

His best role in the NBA isn’t being a PG though. It’s a valid question.

But we don’t really know that. What we do know is he’s good with the ball in his hands, and a great passer - enough so that his new coach wants more of both.

Darko was asked about Scottie starting at point guard and he basically said that positions 1-4 are going to be interchangeable. I took that to mean that he’s not going to need a traditional point guard on the court (ie Dennis doesn’t need to start).

Hopefully there is so much passing and movement that this really does become a moot point - whether Scottie is technically the starting point guard or not.

It all just hinges if Barnes can get to the FT line consistantly.

tbh true top 5 top 10 players tend to go beyond a 'role'

It really doesn't matter if someone else is a point guard as long as Barnes is making the decisions in crunch time

Exactly. I really hope someone can get through to him and tell him that. If needing to be a PG is what makes you be able to be engaged when you have some serious maturity issues that need to be sorted out.

You know who gets the ball for the majority of the game ? The best players do. Focus on being the best player that you can be and the ball will naturally be in your hands.

Lebron and Luka are some of the best 6’8 “PG’s” this league has ever seen and even they still need a traditional PG or guard ball handler beside them.

A lot of those guards they’ve had success with are little more than combo guards that can guard opposing point guards and contribute with low usage.

That definitely will be an important part to it but I still think it will really boil down to Scottie's willingness to try & takeover and dominate on a consistent basis the way great players do and they kind of standards they hold themselves to.

Because throughout his first couple of seasons there were nights you barely even realized he was out there and others where he just took over certain stretches of the game and before you'd know it he'd have 20+ with relative ease. I don't see anything skillwise or any lack of ability to put 20+ a night, just the consistent effort to do so. Although his 3ptr isn't there, he has a surprisingly unique ability to work down in the post that he could do it in a way that Karl Malone did (who had a somewhat similar build - prob a bit broad overall) -- but there's a lot of ways to get buckets in the post with his touch & unique way of processing which moves to make & he seemed to be adding some mid range towards the end. If he can just do those things which I think should help just improve his confidence in watching the ball go in, I think his 3pt touch will get a little better as well that I actually don't think the path to become a 20+ppg is as hard as some may think. For me it will just come bad to how bad does Scottie want to achieve it?!

We're gonna find out I guess...
