3 picks (assuming they can unlock that OKC pick) + 2 swaps + JJJ + expirings can be traded for someone.
It doesn't have to be a superstar like Dame/KD.
A guy like lets say Tyus Jones (maybe slightly more talented) could make this team better and have a future as well and I wouldn't expect him to cost all that.
This season, we can try to convert OKC pick to ‘26 unprotected which opens up trading ‘24, ‘28, and ‘30 while allowing swaps in ‘25, ‘27, and ‘29. You can attach that to Lowry and other players.
2024 Summer: After we make the 2024 draft pick, we can try and have the OKC pick become an unprotected ‘25 pick which opens up trading ‘27, ‘29, and ‘31 FRP while allowing swaps in ‘26, ‘28, and ‘30.
2025 Summer: Assuming the OKC pick is finally satisfied, we would be able to trade ‘26, ‘28, ‘30, and ‘32 FRP along with swaps in ‘27, ‘29, and ‘31. This would be the first time we would have all FRPs (assuming the 7 year rule).
2025 is the summer where Donovan and Tatum have player options for example. Player options means said players can leverage that player option to convince their current teams to facilitate a trade to a desired destination in return for the option to gain back some assets before they leave for nothing. We could actually see this unfold as soon as summer/trade deadline in the 24-25 season(next season).
I am not saying we should hold for this or that Cavs or Boston would facilitate a deal to conference rivals… but saying that having our assets coupled with player options makes for a far better argument than having less assets trying to trade for same players options or even worse, old players with 4 years/$216million dollars and absolutely no leverage!
