How many All-Stars will Celtics have in the 2024 ASG?

Post#1 » by shackles10 » Tue Oct 3, 2023 1:22 pm

I know it doesn't really matter and we're all focused on banner 18, but just for something less important to talk about... how many all-stars do you think we'll have? I think Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, and Jrue all have a shot (in that order with possible flip-flopping of JB and KP), but it's not the 2015 Hawks anymore where good teams are more easily awarded spots. Team success still comes into play, but there's just way too many worthy players to have the Kyle Korver's and Jeff Teague's of the league making it just because their team has a really good record. I think White has an outside chance if we have a REALLY good record but Jrue or JB miss significant time and there's other injuries in the Eastern Conference at the guard spots close to game time, but I can't say more than an "outside chance".

I'll set the line at 2.5 and go with the under. What's your guess?

I'm thinking KP makes it if he's healthy the whole year. Might finally see the true unicorn unleashed when surrounded by this much talent

Agree, I'd take him over Turner. Think Zinger will have some strong numbers on a good team which makes it an easy choice.

Turner will have slightly worse numbers but will be picked as injury replacement cos ASG is in Indiana haha. Boston will also have 2-3 all-stars already.

Probably the safest bets although I have a weird feeling it'll be Zinger as our 2nd all-star, not JB, and JB could be the injury replacement mainly just because a lack of bigs vs. wings/guards in the EC. Outside of your list there's guys who could make it that have made it before (DeRozen, Middleton, Randle, Siakam, Ball, Garland, etc.) but Jrue falls into that category as well and then a list of guys who could make the leap but would come earlier or just a larger leap than expected (Banchero, Mobley, Maxey, Cunningham, Barnes).

I think BOS has 3 this year and I don't really care who they are.
Four or five 'candidates', likely.
Awards, overall:
MVP: Tatum top 3 = finalist
6MOY: Al or White candidate, though Al won't put up counting stats
COY: Mazzulla was top 3 last year, no reason not to be this year
All Star and All NBA: several?
DPOY, All Defense: these are the ones I want

I don't think we have a DPOY candidate but could have 4 all defense candidates with Tatum, White, and Jrue already being right there and Jaylen pushing the narrative already. Hard to impossible to get 4 of the available 10 spots though lol. Zinger will be no slouch imo, but they'll save the media push for Jaylen only.

Ha hadn't thought of the location. I'd pick KP over Jrue though, in terms of AS game this year. I think they will feature his scoring more and the front court spots are thinner, whereas Jrue will be more all round glue guy and prob decrease scoring frequency more than Zinger.

So I'd say Tatum and Brown, next best odds Zinger, fourth best odds being Jrue Holiday. That's how I see it.

Jrue and White in the all defense
Tatum, KP and Brown all NBA

KP and Tatum in the 3pt

Won't argue against that.

I had a chance to buy tickets for the All-Star weekend festivities (not the game itself) and passed with a baby on the way. Financially I'm fine with my decision, but my green-blooded heart says I'm a moron who should be willing to do inappropriate things to go see our boys steal the weekend.

Could see the hometown pick as the first all star for them, but if they already have Hali (like they probably will) then I doubt they'd get cute with it like that.

Hali wouldn't be a hometown pick. He's an All-Star no matter where the game is held. It's not solely because it's a hometown pick for Turner. He's no slouch. He was averaging 20/6 on 60% FG% post-ASG last season. I project Pacers to be top 6 in the East at voting period. KP won't be averaging the 23/8 he did in Washington. Jrue's numbers will go down too.

I think that we have 3 x All-Stars, with a 4th possible, as a Replacement.
We may have 3 x All-Defensive Team, too. And 2 x All-NBA's, or more.

Free Fun Fact: The last time Celtics had 3+ all-stars was 2010-2011 when the Big 3 and Rondo all made it. Celtics had 3 representatives every season from 2007-08 to 2010-11.

I think Mil will have a better regular season record at the time and overall, and will only have 2 guys, i think the Celtics will as well with Tatum and Brown. PG is loaded now with Dame in the east and likely to be voted starter. Unless KP is blocking 2 shots a game and hitting 40% of his 3s as well as playing 85% of his games im not sure he will have an argument for being there.

2 is more likely than 3 but 3 is more likely than 1

Off to a slow start this morning as I admit I was trying to figure out who "Mil" on our team was and why I wasn't aware of this nickname.
