Expecting Beasley to step up his defense to cover for Dame and Khris' limitations on that front seems like it'd be begging for trouble.

A Dame and Beasley backcourt just gives me nightmares of Stotts' defense free Mo Williams and post-ACL Michael Redd combos. And our starting lineup could use a can-do defender dramatically more than another guy who'll jack up shots whenever he can.

No one is going to miss Grayson Allen. The 2 guard spot was a more pressing issue with Holiday as the starting PG. With Dame there’s no longer an issue. Anyone that starts next to Dame will be just fine as long as they don’t let opposing guards score all over them and become the weak link of the defense. Which was Grayson Allen last year and why no one will miss him, ever.

Beasley seems to easily be the worst candidate. He's a terrible defender as mentioned, and on top of that he's a high volume shooter so he'd likely be taking shots away from Dame, Giannis, & Khris. Beas is a perfect bench guy to provide scoring when our main guys are out. Pat is the safe choice to start but I'd like to see what MarJon & AJJ do this season.

Still wondering how Terence Davis hasn't landed on a roster yet. He hit 36% of his 3's on 10.4 3PT attempts per-36 and can guard both wing spots (6'9 wingspan). He'd be perfect here.

Yeah, I think it's more important to have a defensive minded SG next to Lillard. Of course OG would be ideal, but we can't afford that. Pat is athletic enough and can play above average defense so I think he plays most of the SG minutes UNLESS Marjon can show he can matchup vs. opposing SG's.

In an ideal world, it'd be Marjon taking over the starting 2-guard spot. Given their need for backcourt defense in the starting unit, I'd expect him to start games and Pat to finish them. Honestly, I don't really care how much of a leap he takes offensively as long as he can show the ability to be a shutdown perimeter defender while occasionally hitting a 3.

Marjon would work if he was actually good. He’s a terrible defender and player overall. Start the best player which is pat. He’s most likely to be a decent defender out of what we have. Don’t know much about AJJ other than guys here and summer league, but didn’t seem like he was a guy to defend guards on the perimeter either.

He’s been the guy I’ve been anxious to replace even prior to sending Jrue out.

Looking around the league for tough, physical, high iq wing defenders who shoot a high volume of threes on good percentages, I think the closest comps may be Grimes and KCP.

Gary Trent fits part of that mold, but his defense isn’t really there. Terence Mann doesn’t shoot enough from outside, but he’d be a very nice get. Dort fits the physical defender and high volume shooter, but he’s never shot well. Josh green? Maybe in time.

Any others come to mind?

There's gotta be some behind the scenes stuff with him. I agree, he's a good player. Would have taken him over Bullock based strictly on what you see on the court.

Putting my chips in on Marjon. Having him as a 5th option on the court is ideal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he rarely played with the core team. I feel Griff/Stotts will put him in a better position to succeed than Bud did.

My worry with marjon is his team defense and ability to quickly adapt to what he’s told or sees.

I expect griffin to treat his head coaching role as basically a d coordinator and call out defensive changes on the fly often from possession to possession. I’m worried marjon would be a step behind in that sort of scenario. AJJ, though, may be perfect for it.

We were reportedly interested, but ultimately chose Beasley.

If Davis doesn't end up on a team, we should select him in the G League draft, for the free opportunity to get to know the person.

Dame isn’t a good defender and can’t stop dribble penetration so our starting SG has to be able to guard PGs so we can hide Dame on SGs. Pat doesn’t have a prayer of being able to do that.

That's why I added the "hopefully Marjon earns it"

Unfortunately, he's a terrible scorer. Who knows, maybe he turns things around, but he's been playing himself out of the league the last two years.

He's hit homeruns in pretty much every other area of GM'ing, but a lot of Horst's draft resume is riding on Marjon and/or Jackson becoming a guy. Fair to say he's never had any high picks to work with, but even an average GM tends to stumble into a gem now and then. We're now at 3 first round picks, and 7 second round picks (assuming Livingston isn't waived) who've opened the season on the main roster during his tenure, and Donte is/was the only rotation player of the bunch.

I think you guys are too focused on one guy needing to fill that spot, gotta give guys a chance a chance to step up and earn it. Play the match ups, ride the hot hand, if that doesn't work then pick up a ring chaser like Pat Beverley or Kris Dunn or whoever off the scrap heap. I think we got better options there than CJ McCollum on defense. I'm kind of hoping Dame won't be as bad defensively not having to carry the whole offense on his back while the franchise spins its wheels too, he should at least be engaged.

also wing defenders way more important than smaller defensive guards, Jrue got killed by Jimmy and the Boston Js murder us. Checking Derrick White or old ass Kyle Lowry not as big of priority.
