The Celtics will have to beat out the Knicks for Embiid, and that's supposedly where he wants to play.
They can outbid the Celts for him too, offering Randle, one of their many Centers and several of their
plethora of Draft Picks. For a rebuilding team, all those Knicks Picks are going to hold a big sway...

If that trade goes through, are we better off with Rob/Marcus/Muscala instead of now with JRue?

Does Marcus still eventually get traded to Memphis for Tyus and 2 picks or does Brad trade him with Rob for JRue?
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Even if it was the more prohibitive 110% rule that would have worked fine. As of now Philly is also above 2nd apron I believe. I'm guessing that might be a priority in a Harden trade is to duck it. They might have other avenues to do so as well, I haven't reviewed them much.

I can't remember if this counts to the trade values outgoing or not but it doesn't look like Embiid has a trade kicker in his contract, whereas it was reported that Brown had I believe (not suspicious at all lol) a 7% kicker that would make take it over the top of Embiid's 24-25 salary (by about $1.7M).

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/joel-embiid-15355/

I don't really think any of this would happen, just based on what was mentioned above. I think if the team really wanted to do this, they would have kept their draft picks.

As I mentioned above, the trade kicker would be voided since JB is already making the max next season.

A player can’t receive his full trade bonus if it would take him over his maximum allowable salary. Stephen Curry, Gordon Hayward, and LeBron James are among the players currently earning max salaries who have 15% trade kickers — those bonuses would be voided if any of those players were traded this season.
Note: A player can receive a portion of his trade bonus if his salary is worth less than the max and his bonus would take him over his max. This happened last season with Blake Griffin, whose partial bonus increased his salary to his max.

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/12/hoops-rumors-glossary-trade-kickers.html

Yes good point - though two summers out (Embiid going into his final contract season) it would not be exactly the identical scenario, I was off a year in my thinking.

So yes I believe you are mainly right about this though it does shed a little light on the negotiations with JB. Some of the very minor details of his contract could make it very different in how and when he could be traded I think.

It wouldn't shock me.

Miami isn't really gonna go into the season with old, washed up Lowry as their only PG, are they?

Their only other PG is Jamaree Bouyea, who's on a 2-way for them.

Oh wait, I can see it now. Bouyea is gonna be the next guy that goes from lesser known undrafted player to rotation player on a team that goes deep into the playoffs under Spoelstra - isn't he?

Bouyea actually does have some skill. And he's really quick. And what a fun name..

Ok, that's enough about the stupid Heat

Kind of feels better not trading Smart directly for Jrue on a sentimental level.

Too much mental gymnastics, if's, maybe's and what have you's here.

We have no idea if that fantasy trade for Tyus would have happened. I've seen nothing from any reputable source that indicates we were looking to acquire Tyus. Let's move on from that..

We've got an awesome team assembled, with some great players and a great group of guys. Nothing but positive vibes are being seen/heard so far at camp. We're one of the favorites to win it all. This season is gonna be fun as hell :)

not sure anyone who shoots 40% from 3 in the nba stinks. very limited player, but that alone is hugely valuable. and he was a good positional defender. i like that we got more athletic but we will miss his skill. tbh i was getting a bit tired of his yapping swagger tho, kinda unearned.

Hopefully his replacements are all working on their pump-fakes.

New Celtics this year Svi Mykhailiuk shot over 40% from three last season, is much more athletic and not a "yapper" like "I'm a gonna make both" Grant Williams. Also, any of Stevens, Brissett or Gabriel can play D in Grants place and are much more athletic than Grant.
Man, I still remember when Tatum wouldn't through a lob pass to Grant on a break away because he didn't think Grant could dunk the ball. Fun times.

We have one of the top three starting lineups in all of the NBA, without a doubt. Even non-Celtic fans would have to agree with that. I would put White, Holiday, Brown, Tatum and Porzingis as the number one, but I'm sure non-Celtic fans would disagree. That being said, some are saying we have no depth behind them, but I think we have a very deep bench. No all-stars off the bench of course, but what team does? All three of Brad's categories are covered.

PP, Svi, Banton and JD are ball handlers.
Stevens, Hauser, Brissett, Walsh and Scrubb are wings.
Horford, Gabriel, Kornet and Queta are bigs.

We'll see what, DJ Steward, 6'1 PG, Jordan Schakel, 6'6 SG, Brandon Slater, 6'8 SF, Taylor Funk, 6'8 PF, and Kylor Kelly, 7'0 center has, but at least four of them will be in Maine to keep an eye on. We can only send four camp invites that were waved to Maine as affiliate players, but the fifth one can still be signed to go to, just not as an affiliate.

Maine G-League should be a competitive team this year. Brad has made some solid choices in the develpment pipeline, and these guys must know that if they don't play this year, they may very well be auditioning for next year when the Celtics will be looking at adding marquee players in FA and possibly packaging multiple players in a trade. Plus, some of the current bench guys will want to be paid if they do well this year. So spots 10-15 may very well be open again in 2024-25.

I have a feeling Marcus and Malcolm were both gone no matter what.

Pretty sure all of the Knicks extra picks are protected from teams like WAS/DET that turn into 2nds rather than unprotected. They have a high volume of picks, but none of them are really too valuable unless you think they themselves would go back to being horrible (seems unlikely, particularly if they trade for a star) or Dallas gets even worse than last year with Luka (again, seems unlikely).

I've watched enough of Embiid and I'm all set. Terrible body language, runs out of gas, dude looks tired every time I watch him play. No passion, no energy, no thank you.

Still, between their own Picks and whatever other ones can be conveyed, they are more valuable than the Celtics draft choices.
