Okay, then if he’s an upgrade from Jimmy, who got us to the sSB, and we now have CMC, we should be winning a ring if Purdy is better.
There is a tremendous amount of luck that goes into winning a SB. Matchups make a huge difference in the playoffs. The year Jimmy "got us to the SB" we breezed to the game on the back of our D and run game. He barely did a thing in the first two playoff games.
D looks even better this year and run game has been upgraded. Brock shouldn’t have to do much to get there either.
It isn’t “luck” that has gotten Mahomes 2 rings and another SB appearance.
It is not
only luck that Mahomes has two rings, of course, but luck/circumstances out of Mahomes' hands play an awfully big part. What if Jimmy had hit Emmanuel Sanders in our SB? What if Chris Jones hadn't batted down like three passes in the fourth quarter? What if they called the blatant hold against Bosa on that huge 3rd and 20-whatever conversion? Change any one of those things and Mahomes easily loses that SB.
This past year, Mahomes beat the Bengals by three on a last-second FG. I didn't watch that game, but I'd imagine there were any number of plays that Patrick Mahomes had no impact on that could have swung the outcome.
There are lots of great players in the NFL, and it almost always takes things breaking just right for any one team to go the distance. Saying a guy is effectively a failure unless he wins the Super Bowl - ever, much less in a particular season - is an absurd expectation.
