Today were points problem too, especially with both rookies on the floor. 3/5 is difficult even for Luka and Kyrie. Prosper and Lively had 83 offensive rating. ;)

Watched the replay. Here are some of my thoughts:

Positives
- Luka looked good. But I'm not a fan of purely Luka ball all 1st quarter again. Too much iso and not enough movement.
- Josh Green coming in kick started the team. Great drive, very nice pass to Powell and looked confident. He should start.
- Hardy looked and did a good job playmaking. Good to see after the lackluster summer league.
- Exum looked bigger then I thought and I liked his energy and presence.

Negatives
- Kyrie clearly coasted most of the game.
- Lively got baptized. He looked overpowered, fouled a lot and didn't know what to do. He's a rookie, let him learn.
- Omax overcommitted a lot and also got overpowered on switches with KAT. Also hesitated on shots. Really looked like a rookie.
- Powell was the first big off the bench and played the most minutes out of the bigs.
- We got outrebounded big , got outscored in the paint massively and couldn't shoot free throws. All last year problems again.

It's just preseason so let's not overreact. But hopefully we have a better showing next time.

When u shoot as bad as mavs did ofc u get outrebounded by a lot, more likely to grab s defensife rebound then an offensive. But we still play the carlisle system, all plsyers start running home when someone shoots, that doesnt makd it easier to get o rebounds

It's not only about rebounding. Mavs scored 36 points in paint, Minnesota 60. Paint is wide open, like in previous years.

Luka offense was actually (again) the best offense until others started hitting some shots. Don't forget that for several minutes he was actually the only one who could score.

And on top of it all, Kidd is still the coach with his predictable **** offense. But everything looked extra worse because of KAT and Gobert doing whatever they wanted under the rim.

We foremost needed size, rebounding and D. Nico has brought 2 rookies, 6'8" C, 6'6" Pf and Curry. And that was labelled as very successful offseason. :D

The lack of offensive creativity on this team always drives me crazy. Most of it is Kidd but some of it is also on Luka. Everyone knows Luka can cook almost any defender 1v1. Well guess what? Lebron can do that too but he doesn't every possession, particularly in the 1st quarter. Do that in the 4th quarter. Not the 1st. It's the preseason too, experiment with other offensive sets.

LOL people really criticized the Luka ball? Did you actually watch the game? They're bricking open shots!!!! Even Kyrie couldn't buy a basket. They only scored 3 pts (all free throws from Luka) with no field goal and it was almost half of the first quarter! LOL. So, Luka had to do something because it was embarrassing for NBA players to brick shots! LOL.

Again, Dallas won 50+ games last year because of DEFENSE. The offense wasn't the problem because they were all looked good. The defense once again was the main problem. And if that clown KIDD can't fix it, then it's going to be another frustrating season.

Yes Yesterday points was a problem too but in general a team with Kyrie and Luka plus Curry, THJ, Hardy and a bunch of 3 points shooter can put the ball on the basket often (We were the best offensive team of the league with Luka and a bunch of role players, not forger that).

Powell 16 minutes 0 rebounds. This is the main problem. He they resigned him.
I told you, until this scrub is around Dallas Kidd will find a way to put him on the floor.
We are hopeless.

Heck, even Holmes did good for limited minutes and yet Kidd had to put more Powell who once again couldn't rebound for someone who loved to jump in lob plays.

This team is not serious when Cuban retained Kidd. Other teams that won titles had to fire their coaches, only Dallas. Dallas loved mediocrity.

It was frustrating to watch, but what honestly should he do, if coach gives you to play with totally unplayable rookies, Williams standing on the perimeter and Kyrie disinterested? When had Luka only 1 assist in the whole half? Kyrie - 73 net rating? Those are brutal numbers and have nothing to do with preparation. It tells you that lineup with 2 rookies is unplayable, but that should half decent coach expected before the game. Yes, it's preparation game, but even in preparation games it's futile to try impossible things. Rookies are not ready and won't be ready to start this year.

I believe Nico should get some criticism too. He has made the roster, which is doomed from the beginning. Drafted Lively instead trading 12 pick for somebody else and that's why he didn't have interest in Ayton and had to resign Powell because everyone knew that rookie C won't work. Kidd is a disastrous coach, but nobody can do miracles with front court like that. Majority of Euroleague teams has better front courts.

It's 1 game. I'm not ready to say the rookies are unplayable yet. We all knew this was gonna take some time. Let's see how they react in the 2nd game. Maybe they shouldn't start but it's the pre-season so it's a chance to see what they got without ramifications.

But what I am ready to say is that the offense needs diversity. Note, I know Luka ball works and is statistically one of the best methods for us to score. But at the end of the day, not even Lebron or MJ won a chip playing heavily heliocentric basketball. The fact that we resorted to almost entirely Luka ball in the 1st quarter in a preseason game is the most worrisome to me. At least you can blame other issues on this game on effort or just being inferior physically, this one was strategy.

You already have the answer. How roster looked in Q1? How many times happens that 4 starters don't score in Q1? It doesn't matter if it's a RS game, playoffs game, pickup game or preparation game, what happened in Q1 was not by design but by stupidity. And preparation can't be excuse, Minnesota has played without their best player and still looked like a team. Mavs in Q1 looked like Luka had to pick 4 random guys from the street, who play basketball as recreation twice a year.

I can immagine the motivation from Luka, Kyrie and Williams to play with 2 rookies the first game of the season... Kidd is a joke.

Putting Markieff in before Holmes was a huge turn off for me, the guy waived his trade kicker, and went out of his way to say he wants a second chance, he at least deserved to be there before Markieff and he looked good, energetic, athletic, has great length, had a nice give and go from the top of the key, that showed he has good passing instincts, there are things to explore.
Putting OMax in was a mistake, he's not ready and should spend more time developing, I'm fine with Lively making mistakes in pre-season, I'm fine with the offense looking worse with him (it was a huge reminder why Powell sticks around, just look at the multiple screening actions he does on the floor), he needs to learn, and learn by doing against real bigs is the best method.

I forgot about Holmes. He actually played pretty well and showed some of the things we need.

I think in general, having 2 rookies in the SL is a mistake. I'm fine with it for a few pre-season games but if that's what we roll out in the RS, there's gonna certainly be problems.

We need another 7 footer on this team.
We have far too many centers on this team that arent centers and Lively is obviously too raw.
