Will Pritchard still be on the team after the trade deadline?

Post#1 » by snowman » Thu Oct 5, 2023 7:03 pm

Pritchard is the 7th highest paid player on the Celtics, right behind our 6 starters. (everyone knows what I mean about 6 starters) He is going to make a touch over 4 mil this season but has a qualifying offer of right at 6 mil for next year. Articles have said that he and the team are far apart on numbers to resign. Being only 6'1, he is going to get iso 'ed on defense whenever he is on the floor. I know he is a great shooter, and hustles every time he is on the floor, but is that enough to keep him around being the 7th highest paid on the team? Will he be kept around or traded by the deadline?

Most likely. If the Celtics agree to extend Pritchard then I believe he can't be moved at the deadline (someone can check me on this). Something to watch out for before the season begins.

Probably, they believe in him and we need a third guard. But if a real need emerges down the roster, hes gone

Depends. I'm pretty high on his potential contribution this year, he may be too valuable to trade in February. If he doesn't meet expectations or if Brad is able to snare a more valuable chip, then all bets are off. I'm betting P-Rabbit will not disappoint.

Idk, it's hard to tell this early in the season. Maybe, maybe not.

All I know is, if Banton starts getting minutes over him, he's asking for a trade again haha.

I expect PP to get extended by the end of the month. The Cs need a shot creator, shooter off the bench.

I think that you're right. I don't think he can be Traded that 1st year, if he gets Extended?

Yes, mostly because of how difficult it'll be for the C's to execute trades now that they are above the 2nd apron.

Not really. As long as it is a 1-1 and the incoming salary is less than what the outgoing is, even by 1.00.

I could be wrong. But I think it depends on the type of contract extension.

Like, JB..got the supermax, he can't be traded for a year.

But remember when we traded for J-rich. We immediately signed him to an extension, so that was like in August. Then we traded him at the deadline to get White (so roughly 6 months later).

So I think if we sign Pritchard to an extension, we'd have to wait before he is trade eligible, but i think the waiting period is only a few months - it wouldn't be a full year..

Understood, but I think the odds of finding a trade that both works AND makes sense are not good.

Doesn't he have to go and deliver the One Ring to Mount Doom in Mordor?

Dalano Banton is a guard as well and is on the same level as Pritchard. What they really need is another big.

He’s the one where when they get back he has to lead the resistance against the crappy dudes that stole their cool houses.

I think so, yes. As a scorer off the bench you could do much worse. He played a role even in the playoffs the year they got to the Finals so it's not like he's unplayable.
