Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions - Payne Signed
Marjon understanding that it is his defense that is going to get him on the floor first coupled with watching a ton of Mikal Bridges film is cause for a bit of excitement as well, in addition to his one on one matchups and the fact that he seems to have stood out in camp so far to other players. Bridges and Marjon are an interesting comparison, both came into the league at the same age and have very similar height and weight. Bridges obviously benefitted as a much more polished player coming in, having been in the Villanova program and Marjon a bit more of a vagabond in his basketball development. If he can make a leap this year both offensively and defensively, then I do not see any real weakness on this team.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

IF (huge IF) Marjon develops to be even a serviceable starter/6th man this year and the rest of the team stays relatively healthy I don't see anyone stopping us.
However if we lose, I still blame Bud.

I'm not seeing the Bridges comp at all. Similar size sure, but Bridges came into the league as an already great shooter, whereas Marjon might be an incrementally better athlete. His defensive ceiling is as high an any wing-stopper, but I just wanna see him A) improve his catch & shoot percentages, and B) be able to attack closeouts and finish through contact around the rim. That's really all he needs to be able to do offensively.

I’d really like to see improved footwork this year, and I think the benefits would be huge. He was called for traveling on a high clip last year in large part because he had terrible footwork. Get that down, and he should be able to at the very least attack closeouts really well.

I thought finishing around the rim was one of Marjon's more encouraging traits. His two biggest problems for me are his handles (he had some ugly turnovers even with low usage) and a slow release.
I do like that he is watching Bridges film. Mikal is awesome at running the floor with purpose and cutting off the ball. If Marjon develops those off-ball instincts he will feast this year.

I think the Bridges comp was more from a defensive stand point and what he should be looking to do at his size and length, it also seems he is focused on watching Bridges film on that end of the court. Very much agree as to shooting, Marjon has shown the ability to cut to the rim however much like Mikal. Marjon adding strength should hopefully help with his ability to finish through contact and help his efficiency. I agree as well that those 2 areas are really all he needs to improve on to be effective this year with the talent surrounding him.

The reason I’m down on him is age and the skill level he started with. I’m rooting for him to be good because we need it and he seems like a really good person. I just can’t pencil him as anything other than an end of bench guy til I actually see him being a contributor in a real nba setting. The stuff from training camp is encouraging and very exciting though.

Doesnt the HC need to take blame here FFS buds the head coach isnt it his job to 1. Make jrue switch off on butler wpuldnt you think most HCs would know to steer butler to the left.WTF
Sure, but Bud is the guy who trusted his players and how they feel. Bud also trusted PJ whole heartedly against KD & the Nets. Bud trusted his players when they said they could do something and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't
Not saying anything bout trust but everyone including grandmas saw jrue was getting cutb stomped most coaches call TO n make a adjustment dont tell me spo ir pop wouldnt of.Bud didnt do anything he abdolutely should of put someone else on butler but nope juat stood there with his arms folded and watched the massacre

Jrue awful efficiency while giving up like 40ppg to Butler = guy the Bucks should have kept who now makes the Celtics favorites
Last two games he went 14-36 from the field, was a big part of both 4th quarter meltdowns, and a complete turnstile on defense.
Nobody covered themselves in glory in that series, but he wasn’t good.
Pretty wild to say this in context of preferring Jrue over him, "easily" in your words, considering how Jrue played in the same series

if we had scored more than 16 points in the fourth that game it wouldn't have been a problem even with Jimmy lighting Jrue up

Don't have a horse in the race but didn't PJ basically disregard Bud's orders or didn't like what he wanted to do? Also, If i had to bet, it was Bud who said he didn't want PJ back.

I don't think it's wise to look at that series in isolation. Jrue was much much better than Khris during the regular season.
But even that misses the point - it's about how their skills can be leveraged with Giannis and Dame. There's an argument that Khris' shooting is more important. I think Jrue is perfectly fine as a catch-and-shoot guy, and his defense is vastly superior.
Add in the health issues with Middleton, and it's an easy decision for me.

Is there any actual video of Jrue waving off guys? Genuinely curious of what it looked like and reactions.
I had a work trip i purposely planned that week since, you know, it was the first round and I wouldn't be missing much....

I refuse to believe that he can't be a PJ Tucker level shooter in time. Whether he does it or not is up to him.

For me it was getting shut out in two consecutive SL games, but I also am ready and willing to throw that in the trash like we did with Larry when he broke out after a horrendous 2nd SL.
