Who is crapping on him? Pointing out how terrible he was offensively in the playoffs was something plenty of us were doing when he still played for the Bucks.

Yeah, I think I went about this wrong. I’ll just appreciate that Jrue is still significant enough to generate type here. Poor Grayson Allen, I don’t think anyone’s even mentioned his name since the trade :)

Crowder must have been pushing 270 last year.

This!

I felt like I was a living Vince McMahon meme.

Defense intensity.

Setting 50 screens. :D

Dame is our PG!! The ball is in his hands.

Hopefully Bring 2-3 championships :jawdrop:

Give Dame freedom and let him be a leader. :droop:

I can't even narrow it down to 3 to make it a proper meme.

Both superstars have singled out Marjon in this first week of practice.

I know Giannis didn't mean to but it was also a slight jab to Jrue and his playmaking skills. The way Giannis talks about Dame is like it's the first time he is playing with an actual elite PG on his squad which is true ofc.

On defense I like the idea to pressure the ball, switch, double team etc like the Raptors but I imagine it wont work very well with Lopez on the floor. We will have to see the advanced stats after a few months of play to see if it's overall positive because Brook will get exposed quite a few times but if the rest of group actually shut down everything else apart the 1v1 against the Lopez brothers slow legs I think we will have a good enough defense.

Giannis taking more of a backseat because of Dame will be a welcome sight if it actually happens.

i'm kind of fascinated to watch how that actually plays out this season. it's one thing to say the right things, but what's actually going to happen when the fat is in the fire? Giannis has never had to deal with something like this before. Dame is a total outsider and he's got a very high profile.

honestly it still doesn't feel real that Dame is on the team. i'm going to need to see it before it sinks in.

Jrue is so good at fighting over screens and sticking with his man though, maybe one of the best ever at that. Still, it's closer than people think.

Gotta remember Jrue has been doing it for a long time, and is a well known good guy so that gives him a huge benefit in these discussions

Ironically, I think Bledsoe was better than Jrue navigating screens. Much quicker feet laterally, constantly forced guards to reject the screen or reset. Jrue is bigger and stronger, but Bled was damn good defensively and I don't really view Jrue as "better" on that end, especially considering the absolutely monstrous performances so many guys have hung on Jrue's head. He used to blow up so much action at the POA.

Plus Bled had that meme defense on prime Harden that was not repeatable by any other defender ever who tried it.

Jrue is a nice guy and a good defender. But let's be real, the "Jrue Holiday is the best defender in the league" thing started with the JJ Redick podcast asking about underrated defenders, it getting mentioned one time as a great defender no one talks about, Redick agreeing because he was teammates with Jrue before, then JJ asking multiple subsequent guests the same question, none of those guests ever being able to come up with an answer, then JJ mentioning Jrue so there's not a long awkward silence pause and all of them being like "yeah Jrue is super good on defense". Then it got parroted nonstop by other media.
I think Holiday's defensive reputation is widely held over many years. How else could he receive all of those votes that put him on NBA All-Defense teams ten times?

That only happens when a lot of NBA observers view him as one of the top defenders in the league.

This seems like a terrible idea

Yup, we screwed. I get that they're trying to challenge him, but it won't work longterm. Mike Malone tried the same thing.

It's one thing to hope to improve Malik's Defense. It's another thing to give him the toughest assignments every night. Between this and the stuff about Brook pressuring the ball AG is out here saying some wild stuff
