Japan eliminated from the FIBA World Cup.

Yuta was the best player for the Suns vs Australia but his limitations are as we all know he is not able to create his own shot and being slight of build he can't guard the interior very well.

Team Japan was just too small and without Rui on this team no way were they going to have a prayer against an Australian team with multiple NBA players on its roster. I'm not sure why Rui decided against playing for the national team but the man just does not seem to have much competitive drive and lost a lot of my respect for him.

Outside of Hawkinson who's only like 6'10 but kind of a wide build, Japan were tiny. One dude who played decent minutes was like 5'8 or something. Made Josh Green look like a 7fter guarding him. Rui not playing is a disappointment. Apparently, he was prioritising free agency and rest after a longish playoff run. Rui would've been a real difference maker for them, shame he didn't play.

It's kinda weird/new to see my Aussie team being referred to as an international powerhouse with a pretty decent percentage of the roster being NBA players.

I think that's Yuki Togashi that had a stint with the Mavs Summer league team a few years back.

Good player but unfortunately he's only 5'6 so he's severely undersized and was exploited a lot on defense.

Yep agreed and it's not just off-ball but he just hasn't adjusted to not being the main guy. He's not a knockdown shooter, isn't a great defender or rebounder, so what skillset is he bringing to the team? Will be very interesting how he goes with Zion back, one of them could get dealt quick if it doesn't click.

Suns coach Frank Vogel on Yuta Watanabe's performance today. Watanabe had 10 points, made two threes and had two steals along with five rebounds in a team-high 30 minutes.

"He was great. Gave us a good lift in overtime. The first half, he really played better defensively than he did offensively and he played pretty well offensively. But he really has a knack for being in the right spots, understanding schemes and played a good two-way game tonight."

This was Yuta’s sequence of the game in overtime. Deflected a pass to the roller and then hit a floater on offense. Gave the Suns a two-possession lead.
