Jaylen brown at 60 mill per year. That's kinda rough to say. The nba is giving out contracts for these young players to live 20 years after retirement. I mean without working at all. I look at latrell sprewell fighting for more then 21 million for 3 years. All he needed to do was be born in this generation. And how much is jordan worth in today's nba. About 88 million per year.

let me spell it out for you... OWNERS DON'T LOSE MONEY

the money awarded to these top tier players will be from money the end of the bench should've been getting. you are just supporting the same 1% of NBA Players and sacrificing the rest of the league and that's still majority black athletes suffering

Good for him and his family.

But now, for good or ill, he will be the face of every Celts failure and the face for all those people who will say salaries are outlandish.

Anyone posting their opinions here...whether they think he deserves the money or that his salary is outrageous, each and everyone of those people would have signed that dotted line without a second thought.

I give it 16 months before he asks for a trade, just a matter of time.

You clearly have no idea how the BRI works, but the salary cap would be the same, with or without max salaries. Having maximum salaries makes minimum salaries possible. If Lebron got $100m than most of his supporting cast would get <$1m. Skin color has got nothing to do with it. It's about giving everyone that makes the NBA life altering money, not just the ones that sell the most jerseys.

So obviously you're white
Do you seriously think they can't figure how to negotiate minimum salaries and salary floors w/o the presence of maximum salaries & salary caps? Come on, my dude! MLB has NO salary cap AND the players union recently fought to improve pay & conditions for minor league players. It's what a UNION exists to do

Also if max salaries are so bad why don't the players ever fight to remove them in CBA discussions or lock out over it?

Pretty convenient that you ignored both MLB & Premier League, among others, to make a bad faith argument about parity. Having the highest payroll does not automatically equate to a championship.
As for how the Players Union negotiates the CBA, I don't know why you're asking me. Hit up CJ McCollum or Grant Williams. They can answer that

Lol. The EPL has like 6 teams that have any chance of ever winning the title. Good counter argument.

So it jumped from 2 contenders to 6? Your illogical arguments can't even maintain consistency.
EPL is also the MOST POPULAR professional sports league in the world. Shouldn't the lack of competition and suspense harm that?

La Liga 2 contenders. EPL 6 contenders. And that's the exact same respective 2/6 teams EVERY season in leagues of 20 teams. Unlike the NBA where the contenders change quite regularly. Try not misrepresenting what I post.

We are talking about competitive parity not popularity. So your comment about popularity is irrelevant to what we were discussing.

The fact football (soccer) is more popular worldwide than basketball probably has something to do with it genius.

Please bring race back as your next red herring

Interesting. So you feel the color of my skin is relevant to my credibility? Sounds like you have a problem; maybe one you don't know about.

In the 1992/93 season, David Robinson was the highest paid player at $5.7m. The median NBA salary was $850,000, or roughly 15% of the highest paid player.
Last season, Steph was the highest paid player at $48.1m. The median NBA salary was $4m, or roughly 8% of the highest paid player. Salaries have skyrocketed, but not evenly across the board.

Another way to look at it is: From 00/01 to 21/22 the cap went from $35.5m to $109.1m. That's a 207% increase!
In that same time frame the median income went from $2.2m to $2.4m. That's only a 9% increase.

Like the rest of America, the NBA has a shrinking middle class. Because the player's portion of the BRI is a fixed number, Every extra dollar Lebron makes comes from his teammates. Not a penny of it would come out of the owner's pockets. That is how the CBA works; it's what the players union fought for... and skin color has nothing to do with it.

Not sure why this came up in a search but since I'm here

Isn't the median closer to 4.5M?

500 players listed here on Spotrac and the guys at the 250 mark make 4.5M:

RE: Jaylen's deal, I don't see much different at quick glance:

02/03 salary cap was $40.27M
Aug '02 soon-to-be 3rd team All-NBA wing Shawn Marion signed for 6y $86M.
AKA avg annual salary of $14.33M.
AKA ~35% of the cap.

24/25 salary cap projected to be $150M.
Jaylen (2nd team all NBA wing) signed his big deal starting that season.
AKA annual salary of $52.4M for 24/25.
AKA ~35% of the cap.

$4m last season.

I was pointing out that if we give Lebron, Jokic, Giannis, etc. 75% of the cap (which they may or may not deserve), it will come from their teammates, not the owners. Overpaying players like Beal, Gobert, Harris, etc. inevitably means you are underpaying someone else. Most players are getting a smaller piece of the pie than they were 20 years ago; a few players are getting a lot more. I was talking essentially about the death of the NBA middle class. Somehow my looking out for the little guy made me a racist. :banghead:
