Who Should Be The 5th Starter?

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Wed Oct 11, 2023 11:25 am

This has been discussed quite a bit so let's see where you stand after a couple of games. We'll keep this open until it's announced. And it may vary throughout the season depending on matchups
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

No to Beasley or Green for basically the same reasons(high volume shooters with bad defense)

Any of the other 3 are reasonable. I'd like to see what AJJ can do but I understand why they probably won't atleast to start the year, especially given his lack of shooting.

MarJon is the ideal guy but he's looked fairly rough through 2 preseason games especially with his shooting

So that leaves Pat which I guess is the safe option if nobody else stands out
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

IMO it should be done by committee based on match up and whose hot, hoping somebody steps up and takes the spot

The idealized version of Marjon or Dre. Doubt either of them are ready quite yet but I think Dre might be closer.

Don't love Beasley or Green in the starting lineup (it will be Beas though)

Pat is the best of the bunch but I like him more as a combo forward than a guard.

pat should be the starter if that means like best suited to play with the other starters in our strongest lineup. if we prefer giving him a 6th man award then we can start in order.....

ajj would be my #1 token starter. he simply knows how to play and can defend at this level.

green looks solid too hed be my next choice and a great counter to ajj. a little worried defensively there with him obviously.

beasley will piss me off and marjon makes me sad at this point. prefer they dont see the court

In the regular season it doesn't matter. In the playoffs the 5th starter has to be a good 3p shooter no matter what. Great spacing will make the Dame/Giannis PNR unstoppable and that's more important than perimeter defense.

Voted MarJon. Let’s rip the bandaid off and see if we have anything there.

Nothing more clear than AJ Green at the SG position. We need long archers to destroy the Giannis wall. Low usage, great character, elite 3p shooter, good size athleticism... good effort, he is absolutely fine letting fly 6-7 3p attempts per game. Green is a huge anti wall tool. Beasley forces things too much, so I think ideally Green is happy with his small role 3p catch&shoot.

Pay attention to details ... He doesn't just make 3Ps he hits "nothing but net". He is an elite 3p shooter and I love players being elite at anything.

Another detail is that defense is not that much needed at the SG position. Which SGs do our rivals have? Derrick White & Tyler Herro, aren't any physical monsters who can destroy you with their speed. So the offense , the 3p Shooting is more important for our team in my expertise opinion. 8-)

Might have to be matchup dependant but no name really stands out unfortunately. Pat probably the best option? Not really someone you want defending the other teams best guard though.

Ideally one of Dre or Marjon take the job asap.

We have a wall breaker, it's Dame.

I'm going Marjon, but possibly AJJ by the end of the season.

I imagine whoever it ends up being will look and play much different with the starters than he has been with the scrubbies. I will guess MarJon and he won't even suck.

Ok with Beasley for now while grooming in Marjon or AJJ midway through the season. First 30 games do not matter.

Voted Marjon but certainly not because of current ability. Like PP said, gotta rip the band-aid off and see what you got in the guy you invested a 1st round pick in. If the goal is to put the best 5-players out there then I'm not seeing an argument for anyone other than Pat.

Curious to know what Griffin would need to see from Dre to play him more.

If AJJ can ever be a semi respectable spot up corner three guy he may be the answer for the entire Dame era. Has everything else you'd like in that role

AJJ should get it. There's room for a glue/intangibles/hustler in this starting 5 and he appears to be all that on steroids. We might not have lost a step on D with Jrue gone after all... and you have an athletic willing distributor with size on top of that. I don't see how AJJ will ever hurt you.

Switch out the starter every 5 games and finalize the decision by the all-star game. We need to see how they work off the stars and if they compliment or if they are a detriment (spacing issues, doing too much, **** defense, etc).
Voting MarJon just for now but he needs to get over his Bud PTSD.
