I'm excited for the RS matchups OKC and SAS have this year, and beyond. This was a fun game.

RS because OKC will make it to the playoffs for a few times before the Spurs.


Honestly I'm gonna watch tons of Spurs games again, I haven't been such an excited neutral observer since the last champ run for yall. Wembanyama is going to have even better games than this (manifesting a "instant classic" 35/9R/3A/5B/3S game)

For a rookie he looks great so far even in preseason, its scary to imagine him developing in san antonio and adding muscle and more of the subtle nuances and go to moves to his game.... imagine him with a sky hook

I was blown away by what I saw.

First quarter, first PRESEASON game of his career and the fans were booing after his second basket.

He gives off Shaquille vibes of "that's not fair!"

I kept hearing about how he wasn't a good three point shooter, but he was coming down and shooting in rhythm and went 2-5.

He will be a free throw machine in this league because you can't guard his size, mobility AND shooting all at the same time.

Does he look “generational” to yall?

Definitely too early to say. His offensive game is definitely fun to watch and the diversity in it, will lend itself well for him moving forward. IMO this game he looked best when around the basket and not trying to do KD stuff.

However his defense is pretty feast or famine right now. He goes for the all-in steal or block which worked for him largely tonight, but also led to fouls on the 3pt line or easy layup because he was chasing the dude around the perimeter.

Worst thing I saw tonight was his rebounding. It looks as if he's always just relied on his height because his fundamentals are truly terrible. He can't box out to save his life and oftentimes started running the other way before the rebound was secured (so he could receive an outlet pass). I get it....Shaq did it late in his career but this Spurs team needs their largest player to secure boards more than they need fast break points for him. Maybe he could work with Duncan on this as he was one of the GOAT outlet passers

So that spin move is stupid fast. We'll see what happens with his rebounding and all that, but he seems to have great awareness for using his length to contest shots without jumping around like a crazy person, which is nice.

Hope he stays healthy. If he can, then it'll be loads of fun watching to see what he develops into. Definitely showed some interesting flashes against the Thunder. Preseason, blah blah blah, the usual equivocations. But very interesting to watch.

I already mentionned it in this thread last season but the only huge major weakness that he has is his rebounding, he has always been a poor rebounder. It is hidden by his numbers but a lot of his rebounds come by virtue of being around the basket and being long af. To his credit he's a willing team player so he often boxes out opponents for his teammates to get the rebound. He doesnt seem to have improved in that aspect and I suspect Spurs dont care about that for now but it's certainly the one part of his game where he's well below average.

instantly a top 3-5 NBA player going by impact. There's so many things he impacts that won't show up in the box score as well. Once his teammates figure out how to get him the ball and he catches up to the speed of the league he'll be unstoppable. Like generational Bird, Magic, MJ, Kareem, Shaq, Wilt and Lebron before him, he'll be a perennial MVP candidate from Day 1 and for as long as he remains healthy. I think his rebounding will be affected by the Spurs insisting he leaks out after shots to create mismatches on outlet passes but they're likely doing it to limit the amount of banging and potential injury he'd face down low as well. I don't think this will be a long-term strategy. It's just until he bulks up.

You should listen to Pop's post game interview. It's obvious that SA is going to put him in different places to best see how he can impact the game. I don't think him leaking out and hanging around the perimeter was strictly because he wanted to. I'm sure we will see at some point in the preseason a game where Pop has him as the anchor on defense. Pop has said multiple times at this point he does not know how to play Victor and they are still figuring out where to put him on the court and understand his game/tendencies/etc. Give it time. It's hard to rebound when you're not near the basket on defense. I'm sure at some point Pop will realize Victor will be best utilized anchoring the paint

The only thing I think we can say for sure at this point is that his rebounding isn't a strong suite and he's probably not ever going to be an area rebounder despite his size. The rest of his game looks pretty NBA ready including shooting. He already looks to have adjusted to the NBA three point line. He won't shoot a big volume right away, but it will keep the defense honest.

A single preseason game has only so much meaning, but then, it's better to see good stuff than not, right? I'll still be cautious as I watch Wemby because I remain concerned about his potential health. And like with any prospect, who knows how he'll develop? But he certainly has looked good given the opportunities available, and he is in a fantastic situation.
