my genuine concern is that Hayward will get injured, Cody's knees is shot and we're doomed to another crappy season which makes Melo want to leave. (thats if Melo stays fit)

Melo 35, Theo 13
Rozier 35, Frank 13
Miller 35, McGowens 13
PJ 35, Thor 13
Mark 26, RIchards 22

Currently I can see the minutes spanning out to something like this, its just gross.
Front office has to do something.

I think Melo will wait a couple years and let that new fresh money sink in first. We lack depth but Lamelo, Miller, PJ, and Mark is a really solid core. Just need depth.

Edit: And without looking or even really knowing I'm assuming our payroll is low compared to others and Hayward expires after this season. Next season we can sign some legit glue guys and depth. This season with Miles and Kai just being ridiculous I don't know.

Im getting pretty doomerish as well. Miles is a total lost cause, and Miller just does not seem like the type of player that will make a big impact within his first few years. Quickly losing hope on the Lamelo era unless Mark Williams ends up being a really dominant big for us.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Not taking back Thybulle in the McDaniels trade keeps looking more absurd by the day...

I'm not sure it was documented we were offered him in the McDaniels trade. Is this speculation?

It wasn't explicitly stated by the team, but it seems logically impossible that taking back Thybulle wasn't on the table since Philly was obviously offering him since he ended up getting shipped out in the same deal. The only reason you would need to involve Portland in the trade is if Charlotte specifically didn't want to take back Thybulle (presumably because he was due an extension). The deal from Philly's perspective was basically Thybulle and a 2nd for McDaniels and they could have done that deal with Charlotte straight up.

So does trading away a chance to draft Eason.

I'm back. Excited for the 23/24 edition of the Hornets. Looking forward to Kai making a real leap this year - confident this is the season he locks in mentally, focuses on his game, and becomes a contributing cog in our frontcourt. Also, happy we gave Miles a second chance - sure, it was an awful thing he did but I'm sure he deeply regrets it (did you read his statement?) and that he'll hit the court a better man. Finally, a healthy season of Martin and Hayward will do wonders for our rotation depth. A lot to look forward to.

https://www.si.com/nba/hornets/news/could-james-nnaji-make-an-unexpected-return-to-charlotte-this-season

Technically we could sign Nnaji and bring him over now.
I'd prefer a vet, but we need depth and nnaji is rotting on barca bench

Biyombo, TJ Warren, and Terrence Ross are all still free agents.

With Miles out we can offer TJ a substantial role. Mitch needs to get off his rear and sign both him and Biz.

I like Warren, though he stays hurt. Biyombo is always welcome with his Eitri hands and active F-you attitude.

But I thought the Hornets don't have a roster slot to offer without waiving someone? Bridges is still a Hornet and probably will remain one until the legal stuff fully shakes out. Charlotte could cut bait right now, of course, but that's not a Mitch Kupchak move. He likes to take his sweet time with such things. The Kai Jones thing, for instance, lingered far longer than it should have.

Wait...the roster just opened with Jones gone. Just remembered that.

So, what should the Hornets do? Go with Washington at the 4 and bring Thor up into the rotation, then sign a wing player? The Hornets could apply for a Bouknight exception and open another slot, I suppose, if he goes on IR. That would open the second salary slot you mention.

Fully expecting Martin to be out for a while...let's sign Terrence Ross imo. Probably should just sign all of them. I don't see why not.

I would rather have brought back Oubre than TJ Warren, but they're two peas in a pod. Neither of those dudes are replacing Bridges and getting us higher than the 10 seed regardless so I'd rather cycle in a few hungry young players from the D-League than Warren.

We have like 6 versions of Ross on the roster already.

Vet C or PF and vet PG and I'm happy.

I’d rather just play the young guys and go 22-60, which is what I think is the most likely scenario. We aren’t a playoff or even playin team without Miles. Only way it doesn’t is if Mark Williams is DPOY material already

Feels like every other year we don't have a backup PG.

Frank isn't good.

Frank's career best season was 6/3 and he's never shot above 40%. At least Dennis had a few years of solid production early in his career.

But I wouldn't sign anyone. We need to see what the young players are made of.

we should have a roster spot after cutting Kai, rumour on the board is that ROBINSON-EARL will be cut from OKC, he would be a good pickup.

Really wish we would have brought back oubre on like a 1 year 8 million type deal and had that contract to use in a trade if needed. Plus we would have had bird rights if we ended up wanting to resign him after the year.

Right now we have 7 rotation guys that we can count on.

LaMelo
Rozier
Hayward
PJ Washington
Mark Williams

Brandon Miller
Nick Richards

Miles Bridges, who knows if he will ever play for us again but he can't be counted on. We need another wing which maybe can be Thor. We need another off the bench scoring guard which maybe can be Nick Smith Jr. Last thing on the list is a solid vet backup PG, maybe we can make that trade at the deadline, but it would be nice if we had some matching salary we didn't mind parting with.

And why waive Kai Jones? Even that contract could have been useful in a trade just for the contract. If we need the roster spot to sign someone else that whatever I guess. Seems like we cut him just to be jerks about the whole deal.

Just tell him we want to help him find his way to the right situation and keep him on the roster for a minute if we don't have anybody else to sign.

Right or wrong, fair or unfair, this is the reputation we have in the league currently. Our front office could not possibly have a worse reputation. I just don't understand how they haven't done a complete clean out of Jordan's leftovers and start fresh. It better happen at the end of this year. I can't take another year of Mitch and Company.
