You know you're a basketball degenerate when, in an offseason where we're running back a 58-win roster while making the biggest superstar trade in franchise history, the biggest debate/discussion topic is, naturally.....what's Mailk Beasley's role?

Beasley will have every opportunity to resuscitate his career. But Horst also has a history of moving on quickly when guys flop (DJ Augustin / Cousins).
Connaughton ideally is a 3 and Crowder / Middleton should be a 3/4 combo not 2/3.
AJJ, MarJon and even AJ could absolutely seize the day. But when vet ring chasers start asking for trades and getting bought out from hapless teams the Bucks could be a huge opportunity.
I could be completely off on this, but it seems like we've seen fewer guys get bought out the last couple years since the introduction of the play-in. Right now I would say Washington is the only team that I am very confident has no shot at the play-in. San Antonio would probably be next but if Wemby has a Lebron-like rookie season in terms of impact, it wouldn't shock me if they snuck into the play-in.

I like the posts that are already questioning Griff's intelligence.

Beasley is definitely the type of guy who's going to drive this board crazy for as long as he's in the rotation.

I've been wondering who the fanbase is going to turn their ire towards this season with Bud, Hill, Nwora, Jrue all gone. Beas is the early favorite for that

I mean Middleton is still around, who I feel like 50% of the fanbase absolutely despises

Yea but Khris also has his ardent defenders. I feel like 90% of the fanbase hated Hill, Nwora, & Bud

I don't think that's likely. Dude just lost out on $13-14M. He isn't stupid. He signed to be part a championship level team that didn't even have a starting spot open when he signed. He knows he'll need to play the way coach wants if there's to be a big pay day in the future.
Dude shot 29% from the floor in the playoffs. It had nothing to do with Reaves and more with him being terrible. Beasley was in competition for minutes off the bench with Lonnie Walker and he lost.

It seems like the people who want Beas to start are banking on him being a completely different player then he's been his entire career, which I'm very skeptical on.

Iiked the Beasley signing because working with the minimum your options are obviously limited, but had they signed for like the MLE I would have hated it. There's a reason he's been on like 5 teams and had a weak market as a FA this summer.

I don’t have a dog in this. Just seeing the indications that Griff might want him to start and trying to figure out why without assuming the coach is clueless.
What I am banking on is the Giannis-Dame 2-man game is so overpowering that whichever player is the 5 starter is only going to touch the ball as an outlet catch & shoot and won’t be stealing shots from anyone.

Right, so you basically are saying the only way Beasley should start is if he completely changes his game from the way he's played his entire career on both sides of the ball? That just seems incredibly unlikely to me

Basically. Right now he and Griff are talking a good game.

You may be right. Like I said earlier in the thread, I kinda expect a number of players might get a crack at the 5th starter spot during the first 20 games or so.

Yea I get they are talking a good game. I just sort of find it funny that people are talking themselves into the idea that a player is going to come here and completely revamp how he plays on both sides of the floor rather than just saying maybe AG is being really dumb on this choice.

I'd really love MJB and AJJ to run away with all of the 2 spot minutes this year. Thats the ideal situation.
Pat grabs all the backup 3 mins. Beasley isn't playing.
But who knows? Maybe we wind up loving Beasley and he looks solid here.

Can people change when they’re 26? I think that was about the age that I started to realize I didn’t know everything.

Start Marjon. Throw him into the deep end and see how he reacts after 10-20 games.

I don't know why anyone would discount that what Griffin has been saying is coach speak. I think Beasley has been terrible the last few years and has been playing himself out of the league, but I also recognize that a coach could be trying to light a fire under the ass of a guy that could soon be out of the league.
A coach telling Beasley, who was traded multiple times in the last year or so and who is on a minimum contract at 26 years old, that he needs to go out there and hound the best scorers on the court night after night could be the best thing that ever happens to him in his basketball career.
I have little faith in Beasley, but I think Griffin is handling him perfectly.

Sure, and actions will speak louder than words, if this is all coach speak to try and motivate him that's great. But if October 26 rolls around and he's actually in the starting lineup I'm going to say that's a really dumb decision by AG. I'm all for AG trying to get Beas to be a better defender or take better shots. But I certainly wouldn't just hand him a starting spot in hopes he'll do so
