Re: General Blue Jays Thread pt. 2
So with Hagen Danner going on the 60-day IL, that's going to give him 52 days of MLB service time this year - about 28% of the season.
Prorated at an MLB minimum salary, that earns him about $200,000 for the year, or $600,000 per IP.
By comparison, Justin Verlander will be earning about $300k per IP.
Sucks that Danner's season is done, but that's gotta soften the blow.

Blue Jays corporate arm: “Manoah timeline still unclear.”
Lol. There is no timeline. He’s on a bender somewhere.

Rangers Bullpen last 18 games:
SV/SV opp. - 2/12
ERA - 7.41
Inn. Pitched - 75.1
OBA - .298
And Eovaldi gets rocked in his return.
Doubya's team going up in flames.

I don't mind playoff run trades getting someone that can produce short term for a prospect. However, it was clear watching Mitch White just once in a Jays uniform that he is not a MLB calibre pitcher. That was a terrible trade as Nick Frasso is poised to make his debut with Dodgers. Maybe Frasso never amounts to anything but White was just that bad.

It's wild how being a fatass is culturally acceptable in baseball. You still see these guys getting injured in ways an old out of shape office worker would - i.e. tearing a hamstring jogging for 2 seconds.

Not sure its the weight with Manoah. CC Sabathia was heavier and never really had issues until early 30s. Manoah's slider was very flat the only start I saw him. Maybe the weight is impacting his back or knee but you'd think we'd have heard about something by now. Hopefully he turns it around but I'm wondering if this is going to be a simple fix or not.

I think it’s the weight plus the clock. Ie, he can’t pace himself and gets gassed pretty quickly. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our three heaviest All Stars from last year have really struggled with the introduction of the clock, and our more in shape All Stars have not.
And a pitcher would be way more immediately and consistently impacted. That’s not to say he (and Vlad and Kirk) shouldn’t lose weight either way moving forward, but I think the clock makes it absolutely necessary.
I mean MLB.com even put outa promotional video in the off-season saying their findings were that it would make the game a much more cardio-impacted one and that that would make players lose weight and get healthier. The corollary would imo obviously be that players who it will ideally help the most will also experience the greatest stress/change.

I think you're right. Mix in there a few ground balls to 1B needing manoah sprint to cover 1B. 20 seconds probably not enough to catch his breath

Fire the manager, the signs were there last season as well. He doesn't have it.

Aside from weight, does he work on his legs and cardio? It used to be a standard thing for pitchers to run in the outfield, on off days. Long sprints. Is that still a practice, and did Manoah do it before he was sent down?

Kevin Kiermaier open to Yankees’ free-agency pursuit: ‘Especially like here’ - New York Post
Kiermaier 'wasn't thrilled' with report that he has interest in signing with Yankees - Sportsnet.ca
In the same week Jasson Dominguez underwent Tommy John surgery, it is possible the Yankees witnessed their 2024 Opening Day center fielder patrol the outfield in The Bronx.
Kevin Kiermaier sure sounds open to trading jerseys this offseason and donning pinstripes.
The three-time Gold Glover is enjoying what might be his strongest offensive season in his first year with the Blue Jays.
Kiermaier spent his first 10 seasons with the Rays, with whom he was a middling hitter and game-changing outfielder.
The soon-to-be free agent could continue his tour through the division with a third AL East club — and one that notably does not play its home games on turf, as the Rays and Jays do.
“I like the AL East. I’ve played in the division my entire career. I especially like here and Fenway,” Kiermaier said this week, when his Blue Jays won the first two of three games against the Yankees but lost Thursday’s finale, 5-3. “Feel like I’m always hitting homers here or playing well.
“Being on the turf my entire career, I enjoy being on the grass. My body feels so much better being on grass.”
The lefty-hitting Kiermaier entered Thursday with a strong .850 OPS in his career at the Stadium, a persistent contact-hitting and smooth-fielding annoyance to the Yankees for a lot of good Rays clubs.
The thin center-field market this offseason will include Cody Bellinger, Harrison Bader, Kiermaier and not much else.
The Yankees figure to be interested especially after losing Dominguez, who underwent surgery Wednesday and is expected to need nine to 10 months of recovery.

Sportsnet's Hazel Mae catches up with Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Keirmaier after a report came out saying he was interested in signing with the New York Yankees when he becomes a free agent this off-season.

The Yankees seriously need to start from scratch, their dynasty was because they hit on multiple draft picks.
If they get a core in place, it's another long term contention.
But hey, continue to spin the wheels with a truly bloated payroll. Trout/Ohtani isn't going to solve their problems and in fact adds to it considering both are big injury risks.

Anyway, it’s a dumb complaint. Media availability in clubhouses was collectively bargained with the union and there are limits on when and for how long they can be there. The idea that they shouldn’t report on stuff they heard while there because a clubhouse is a “sacred space” is silly.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

For a guy named Hansel
