I hope that NAW and Edwards can share duties with MCD as PoA defenders. If (and that is a big if) Jaylen Clarke can play his way into rotation as 3&D, MIN will be a tough matchup for any opponent

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
October 23rd is the extension deadline, so we will know in 9 days if he agrees to an extension or not.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
Jaden is out the game today with a minor calf injury and will be re-evaluated in 1.5 weeks. Hopefully it is is minor, and doesn't turn into a half a season thing like little Jmac and Towns last season. We probably won't see him in another per-season game.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
Man, I just want to know do we have him extended or he is hitting restricted free agency. It's looking like he will hit restricted free agency next year. It maybe a good thing, because we will figure out if Ant gets a SuperMax and who to keep / trade etc all at once. Maybe Miller or Minott will be the next JMaD

Agreed, and this might just be Jaden and his agent being very cautious. While a severe injury is rare, these are huge athletes playing at extreme speeds, so it occasionally happens. Jaden is looking at a nine figure contract, so putting in even the slightest bit of risk to that deal, for a pre-season game, might just make it worth sitting it out until the deal is signed.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
The deadline for a McDaniels contract extension is almost here and there has been radio silence. I would love to get this deal done, but it's not all that big a deal if it doesn't happen. My guess is the negotiation will come down to how much below a max deal Jaden will accept. Above a certain point it just makes sense for the team to let it go to restricted free agency. If McDaniels proves he's worth a max deal you happily pay him, if not you continue negotiations and match any offer he gets.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
I'm feeling more and more there is not going to be an extension.
Connelly tried to lowball Naz too until Taylor stepped in.
There is probably a wide gulf between what he thinks he is worth and what we are willing to pay him with 3 max contracts already on the books for next year.
If he doesn't extend, it doesn't mean he's leaving, but it will make his future here a question mark all season.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
When I see signings like this one it makes me weep and think Maybe Jaden should get $25 million a year.

Avdija signed a four-year, $55 million extension with Washington on Sunday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Avdija locks in with the Wizards through the 2027-28 season. Entering his age-23 campaign, Avdija joins Bilal Coulibaly as the only wings on Washington's roster -- representing an opportunity to continue growing as the team rebuilds. Growth begins with his three-point shooting, as he connected on just 29.7 percent of 3.1 threes per game last season.

[Krawczynski] Karl-Anthony Towns missed the preseason finale in Chicago with right knee soreness. He said today he's good to go for the opener. Chris Finch says Jaden McDaniels is doing some 1-on-0 work right now. But it still seems like he's got some hurdles to clear
Jaden probably isn't playing anytime soon.

It sucks, but he may miss a week or two.

Yes, I think we do need to look at the incentive of these contracts. Often time it's overblown.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
Yet another reason the Gobert trade sucked so much. Not only did the Wolves overpay for a player bereft of even a modicum of offensive skill - who also happens to be in very obvious decline - but his contract severely limits the Wolves' financial flexibility. They better find a way to get Jaden extended because the RFA route is not a good idea.

The Gobert trade has nothing to do with JMcD extensions. They could paid JMcD max but JMcD is not a max player so you will be stuck with him like Wiggins, if you do. It's all about JMcD and his agent's salary expectations vs Wolves management expectations. He is somewhere between 20m to 25m a year player. If he thinks he's going to make a big jump and test restricted free agency, then good for him but I think he will be disappointed.

Correct. If Jaden was Ant II, do you think whether Gobert was paid $2 mil or $60 mil, it would keep MIN from locking him up on a max? In the end, Jaden is worth what he’s worth, and I believe MIN is going to pay him that - most likely next season
To me, this is just another attempt to scapegoat Gobert for anything that a person doesn’t like. We haven’t seen a Jaden extension? It must be Gobert’s fault! Ant is shooting too many mid-rangers? It must be Gobert’s fault! DLo and Ant struggle to feed Gobert, but Conley and SloMo do it just fine? Gobert’s fault!
Rudy Gobert is not a magic boogeyman. He is not responsible for all the bad in the world.

He should be since we paid 5 draft picks for him and he is earning supermax money. Don't forget he needs to solve the Middle East crisis before the NBA season starts - since he is from France

Well, he is did bring Covid to the United States, and if I had to point my finger at the one man most responsible for climate change, the rise of Putin and erectile dysfunction, I’d have to choose Gobert.

RFA is not a good route for the player. Every year players get screwed by RFA. The teams have all the power. Yes, some teams will have space next summer, but if they know Minnesota will match, they won't even try. Also, NBA free agency is a sprint. Hell, Minnesota was completely done with free agency after 30 minutes last July. No one is waiting 3 days to see if Minnesota matches. When the Wolves do, the pool of players is empty. Sure, they have been a few examples, such as Ayton and Indiana, but most of the time, RFA go back to the their old teams on the same deal or a worse deal.
It's possible with Taylor still in charge that Minnesota is low-balling Jaden and he just wants what he feels he's owed as a starter on a playoff team, but it's way more risky for him to roll the dice than it is for Minnesota.

If Jaden is waiting on a max offer, you take this to rfa next summer. The wolves can offer around 60 million more than any other team can in rfa, so if another team offers him a max we would still save money over us giving him a max contract. You might make him a bit upset, and a team might put in a 15% trade kicker, but if you don't trade him you don't have to worry about it.

You're way smarter than this, shrink. I choose my words very intentionally and typically you do as well. You have forgotten more about the cap and CBA than most of us (including myself) will ever know on the subject. In terms of financial flexibility, do the Wolves have more or less flexibility than before making the Gobert trade? It's not a question of worth, or even perceived worth, that I'm interested in.
