I mean, sure, but Middleton missed 2/3 of the season, so that was sort of a necessity, given Grayson played all his minutes at the 2.

Connaughton has played most of his minutes at forward in each of the last 3 seasons, and I don't see that changing. Connaughton has always been a role player off the bench. 410 of his career starts have been off the bench, and he has only averaged more than 24 mpg once in his career.

Beauchamp obviously only has a one year history, so maybe he can play SG. I still think it is worth noting that he played twice as many minutes at forward as he did at guard and did not show that he could guard SGs.

I just think projecting either of them into a starting role is dubious. I think Connaughton is what he is. A very good bench SF who can finish games in some situations. I hope Beauchamp develops into a productive rotation player, but that jury is still out.

Sure, no arguments on either, but isn't it even more dubious to project Beasley into a starting role? He been bad for a few years now.

I think a SG will generally be better at SG than a SF playing out of position. No need to force a round peg into a square hole just because we don't like any of the square pegs. (apologizing in advance for the convoluted analogy)

I don't endorse Beasley, but since you asked, he is one of the few players on the Bucks roster that is an established NBA SG. Not starter quality. Maybe not even rotation quality. Signed for the vet minimum, after all.

But what are the true SG options? I am assuming that Horst had a plan to fill the hole created by trading both starting backcourt guards for Lillard. I assume that he did not wake up September 28 and say "oh my gosh, who do we have to play SG?". I assume Horst considered the hole at SG when he let Ingles sign with Orlando and Matthews with Atlanta. Maybe Green has impressed this summer. Maybe AJJ or Livingston has looked good. Or decent. I don't like any of the options. Connaughton is the only solid NBA player in the group of Beauchamp, Green, Jackson, & Livingston. I trust/hope they have a solution in mind.
"
And maybe the bigger question is why do we care about the "starting 5"? Last year the "starting 5" only started 10 games together. The year before that the "starting 5" only started 1 game the entire season.

Marjon is quicker than Beasley, making him a better option to guard guards. They're all wing players with different strengths, but on ball defense should be the #1 priority, and thats Marjon. Don't care one bit about who is more established, we have the entire regular season for the youngsters to gain experience to get ready for the playoffs. As we've seen from Beasley's entire career, he's not a playoff caliber player.

This is obviously very much not in his control but I love it anyway. If only for the fact that he's not talking about retiring in 2 years.

If Oladipo gets bought out I would guess that there might be some mutual interest there assuming he's recovered from the patellar injury. Yeah yeah, "he can't stay healthy" and all that. But there was that tidbit back in 2020 before the Jrue trade about him being a Bucks target, and apparently he's a Giannis guy.

He posted a video two weeks ago to his IG of him working out and he can barely move at this point, so that's not an option that should really be considered.

Agreed. Might be my favorite Bucks preview so far. The excitement about the offense was palpable but they also hit the legitimate concerns about the defense and Beasley starting.

Actually love Frank’s insights and soliloquies, he doesn’t grate on me like Nehm.

I really wish it was Frank on the Lowe post. Nehm is a smart guy but I just cannot listen to the guy for more than like a couple minutes at a time. I’ll try to not be a dick and give it a shot lol.

He has a weird arrogance about him when he talks. Maybe that's just me. I listened to it on 2x speed lol.

I definitely prefer Frank to Nehm fwiw. But I think Nehm is one of the best at breaking down film and I think that stood out in this particular podcast

I hate that I've become an anti-film guy. I used to eat all of it up, and now if I see someone sharing film on Twitter I can't hit the unsub/block button fast enough.

The one thing that we know from the preseason is that this team is 11 deep. We knew that Thanasis and Rolo are unplayable and are here for non basketball reasons. Which is fine for me. Green and Livingston are also non rotational players for the coaching stuff that will see the floor in meaningless minutes. It’s also fine by me having players with some potential at these spots instead of washed vets.

I’m not in favor of starting either Marjon or AJJ, but I want them playing on a regular basis. I’m hopeful coach doesn’t pull a 9 man rotation when all healthy with Payne/Pat/Jae/Bobby coming from the bench.

The good news for all of us AJJ truthers is that he is going to force the coaching staff to give him playing time. He’s too good at everything besides shooting and makes too many plays on ball, off ball, and on D to be ignored.

He just pops when he is on the floor.

I don't mind Nehm and I don't think he actually is super arrogant, although I can't verify, but he can definitely come off as arrogant, stating things in certainties when they aren't.
