Report: Marlins Wanted To Hire Executive To Work Above Kim Ng

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Oct 17, 2023 11:53 am

The Miami Marlins wanted to hire an executive to work above Kim Ng, which would have pushed the general manager to the No. 2 position, according to a report.

Ng declined the mutual option on her contract with the club, while also passing on a contract extension.

\"Last week, [owner Bruce Sherman] and I discussed his plan to reshape the baseball operations department. In our discussions, it became apparent that we were not completely aligned on what that should look like, and I felt it best to step away,\" Ng told The Athletic.

\"I wish to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Marlins family and its fans for my time in South Florida. This year was a great step forward for the organization, and I will miss working with [manager Skip Schumaker] and his coaches, as well as all of the dedicated staff in baseball operations and throughout the front office. They are a very talented group and I wish them great success in the future.\"

Ng, 54, was hired in November 2020, making her the first female general manager in baseball history.

Don't blame her for leaving. She would've been micromanaged.

The Jays did the same thing to Anthopoulos after he took the team to the ALCS. Owners who try to force out executives like this are the worst. Fire them directly if you want them gone. Don't play games to try and save face. But I guess it works (a lot of Jays fans still blame AA for leaving while glorifying our awful human being of an owner).

100%. Now it looks like the Jays are stuck in terms of improving.

Do the Marlins not have a President of Baseball Operations? If this is the position they are looking to fill, then it's nothing out of the ordinary, and Ng should understand that.

If Miami was trying to create a new position, then I understand the gripe.
