Re: Stotts Steps Down
Seeing Stotts career timeline, it's possible after being an assistant for so long then being a HC and then coming back to assistant he just didn't want it. At his age and the time he's put in, he probably convinced himself being AC was ok, but when reality came he realized he didn't want it. Hard to give control up after making it to HC after so long. I bet this is most likely, trying to put myself in his shoes. Hard from being "THE" guy to being "A" guy.

Nah Bud was an extremely successful head coach. Were there things I disagreed with sometimes yes, but for the most part he made really sound smart decisions that immediately turned us from a middling team to a title contender and one of the best 5 year stretches in Bucks history. I'm very worried us firing Bud is us losing excellence trying to chase perfection.
He was a good coach no argument there but was fricking brutal in the POs RS wins mean nothing in the grand scheme when you cant get your team motivated to play a 8th seed or stsnd there with your arms folded n watch williams n horford go postel from 3 n stand there with your arms folded n do nothing or watch nurse curb stomp your ass in 4 straight games while he made the adjustments n you didnt do sh...But yes great regular season coach

Maybe Bally's can hire him so we still get the return of stats with Stotts (which is the real loss here).

I would ****ing die if after all the rumors and craziness here today it comes to light that Stotts just didn't want to be a AC at this stage in his life. And it's 100% possible, and something I mentioned earlier. I said it's like having a kid. You slog through the newborn/baby phase, enjoy the toddler phase a bit more and go, "let's have another." 6 months later you're questioning why you did it. Stotts might have just realized before he planted his seed too deep.

I will standby the fact that Bud outcoached Udoka and getting to 7 games against Boston without Khris was incredibly impressive and then against Miami this year he lost Giannis for half the series and had to coach through the death or his brother. Look we don't need to turn this into another Bud thread, but to me Bud had earned the benefit of the doubt on most things. But if Bud had come in this offseason and said that he was planning on starting Beasley and using him to guard the best offensive players, and then on top of it Charles Lee abruptly resigned right before the season started, yea I'd have questioned Bud in that scenario too.
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

It makes the most sense especially with what Epi said. Maybe AG sparked something and Stotts had his Half-Baked "**** you, **** you, you're cool" exit.jschligs wrote:I would ****ing die if after all the rumors and craziness here today it comes to light that Stotts just didn't want to be a AC at this stage in his life. Real question is if Stotts still gets a ring after leaving before the season starts...

Now i'm imagining Stotts planting seed.
IDK - If it was really just the grind, Stotts should've been a man about it and announce it at a mini PC or at least issue a team statement before it got out. Either he is a total dick or there is more to it.

This might’ve been brought up in a previous post. But maybe Stotts didn’t want to coach Dame again? I get all the good stuff Dame said about him but would you expect Dame to say anything different coming into a new team?

Not what you want to see a week out from season start. Hope Griffin/Horst have a good replacement in mind. Losing Stotts’ experience and knowledge off the bench is a big deal.

Yes it appears it was Stotts decision but he's been around long to know how to put out this fire and it appears he's chosen not too.
As far as Griffins fault, I wouldn't go that far because we don't know the details, but it's not a great look.

What stuff has come out?
Not a big deal but my overall point is Stotts has been around this league long enough to understand the fire storm this would cause and the fact he didn't do anything to put it out even with some lame PR statement is a little telling.

I would not take anything that Jim Owczarski writes or posts as anything of value, he is an awful reporter, I also think he is a lazy reporter but that is just my opinion.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

Re: Stotts Steps Down
Dame has since TS's firing praised TS in abnormal waves of appreciation for the freedom and support stotts gave him. Not just in public, but last season in Charlotte Dame came over to Stotts' restaurant table to tell him anew of his appreciation of TS' coaching. Far beyond common! No, Stotts gladly wanted to coach Dame again and Dame sincirely welcomed it. They like and appreciate each other.metzy255 wrote:This might’ve been brought up in a previous post. “Everybody was kind of surprised by it,” Lillard said. “It kind of came out of nowhere. I’ve been in this league long enough to know that these types of things happen. Everything continues, so you’ve got to kind of process things like this and other things that may come up and continue to move forward. For me, knowing Terry as long as I’ve known him – playing for him for nine years and him also making this transition for me easier just having a familiar face be such a huge part of it – was a good thing. I think now that I’m settled in, to see him go is unfortunate. It’s sad to see him go, but like I said, everything is still moving forward.”
He added that he appreciated the fact Stotts did it quietly and with some time left in the preseason for the team to adjust. Khris Middleton agreed the timing and Stotts' professionalism were a help.
"I think that's the first time that's happened in my career where I've seen or heard of an assistant coach just resigning at the start of the season, but he had to do what's best for him so credit to him for that," Middleton said. "There's a lot of respect for the way he handled it. Like Dame said, he didn't make a big scene, a big whatever, just made the decision to go talk to 'Griff' and Jon (Horst, general manager) about it I guess and just had to come the realization that whatever he was going through, this wasn't the place for him at the time."

Maybe they're being diplomatic out of respect to Griffin but those quotes sure read like nothing crazy happened and his heart just wasn't in it.

I guess it depends if you believe the players or the reporters. Reporters are basically saying there was a disagreement, players are saying his heart wasn't in it, and Griff basically ignored the question

TBH, Epi had the only worthwhile comment in this thread when he said Stotts didn't originally want to be an assistant coach.

He's 65. Hadn't coached in two years. Maybe he just wants the perfect fit and this wasn't it? I dunno. Or maybe he really wants to be a head coach and didn't know it until they started running practices.

I have no opinion on Jim but my overall point that Stotts has been around and he knew what this would set off so not releasing a PR type statement does raise some red flags with me.crowhead76 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:All I've seen is the JS article saying 'league source' that the 'fit never materalized'crowhead76 wrote:
