Just like with all the weird Bud "play random" criticism, it's like some of you guys think the coach is drawing up every single set and play in real-time that the team is gonna run and controlling them like NBA 2K avatars. I'm way more concerned about how Griffin's defensive scheme is implemented. The offense will be fine.

This. The second they traded for Dame, D scheme became way more important.

On O, spam different versions of Dame/Giannis PnR. Have some off ball action with cutters or screens to take advantage of the fact it’s 4 on 3 a lot of the time.

It’s not going to take a brilliant offensive mind for this O to score efficiently.

While Griff's D is by far the most important aspect of our potential success, I still think it is very important to bring in an offensive mind. Prunty should be a sufficient game management bug in Griff's ear, but some offensive direction, organization, and stability are still needed. Come playoff time, yeah, you are probably gonna be okay with Dame/Giannis/Khris/Brook/Bobby playing off each other.

I stand by the fact Prunty is a better coach than most give him credit for. He took the Celtics to seven when that same Celtics team was one quarter away from getting to the finals. (Weak Eastern Conference for sure).

Prunty probably gets the full time job if he somehow wins that series, which he would have if Snell hadn’t missed a wide open corner three with less than a minute left in overtime in game 1.

Prunty was also the first guy I remember that had players on teams he was an assistant for knowing that the time to reach for the ball is when Giannis spins and gathers. If you reach before that, he blows by and dunks on everyone. If you reach after, it’s an And-1.

According to sources who witnessed the events, Griffin wrapped up the shootaround and called the team together for a huddle to close out the day and let the players get to post-shootaround shooting drills. During that huddle, Griffin informed the coaches that he wanted to have a separate huddle with them once they wrapped things up.


When the players and coaches broke the huddle, Stotts went in the opposite direction of the coaches’ huddle and instead started walking toward players to discuss the offense. As Stotts attempted to start a conversation with Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Griffin called to Stotts to join the coaching huddle. When Stotts asked for some time with the players, Griffin yelled for Stotts to join the coaches’ huddle. The incident occurred in front of the entire team, those sources said.


While brief, the interaction highlighted the underlying complexity of the relationship between Griffin and Stotts in their first year together in Milwaukee. Around the situation on Thursday, there were two perspectives surrounding Stotts’ resignation: His potential difficulty adapting to a bench role under Griffin after more than a decade as a head coach, and the other being a certain treatment and level of respect that needed to be shown to someone with Stotts’ pedigree.

Sounds like more of a power struggle between AG and Stotts. AG wanted to do some things his way and Stotts had his way of doing things.

My takeaway from the Shams article is that Stotts couldn’t handle being an assistant coach again. They had an incident at practice where Griffin wanted to take to all the coaches and Stotts went to talk to Giannis and Dame about the offense and Griffin yelled him back over in front of the team. Sounds like Stotts felt disrespected for someone of his pedigree.

Shams basically reporting that Stotts was big timing Griffin (ignoring him during shoot around). Griffin wanted the coaches to meet and Stotts blew him off to go talk to Giannis and Dame.

Dame sounds good, all things considered. Seems upbeat, which is relieving to me.

This is a huge relief. I think my main worry was that Stotts leaving was going to put Dame in a bad place. He sounds like he's just rolling with it.
