According to sources who witnessed the events, Griffin wrapped up the shootaround and called the team together for a huddle to close out the day and let the players get to post-shootaround shooting drills. During that huddle, Griffin informed the coaches that he wanted to have a separate huddle with them once they wrapped things up.

When the players and coaches broke the huddle, Stotts went in the opposite direction of the coaches’ huddle and instead started walking toward players to discuss the offense. As Stotts attempted to start a conversation with Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Griffin called to Stotts to join the coaching huddle. When Stotts asked for some time with the players, Griffin yelled for Stotts to join the coaches’ huddle. The incident occurred in front of the entire team, those sources said.

While brief, the interaction highlighted the underlying complexity of the relationship between Griffin and Stotts in their first year together in Milwaukee. Around the situation on Thursday, there were two perspectives surrounding Stotts’ resignation: His potential difficulty adapting to a bench role under Griffin after more than a decade as a head coach, and the other being a certain treatment and level of respect that needed to be shown to someone with Stotts’ pedigree.

Interesting. Sounds like a classic power struggle. Stotts couldn't fall in line and bend the knee as an assistant. Makes sense, I would have thought his role would have been highly communicated pre-hire. Feels like maybe he thought it was more of an associate head coach gig.

It all depends on what Stotts was told when he was hired. Was Stotts promised a bigger say and to be the offensive coordinator?

What I don't like about the quote you posted though was that it seems like there are two perspectives throughout the team, does that mean some are in Griffs camp and some are in Stotts camp? Cause if so that could cause an issue.

There's got to be more to it than what's in there because what's in there would not lead to a resignation.

My thoughts here too. This definitely seems like the PR team finally got around to getting their side out. Cause this by itself seems light

We did the same ..hired Vogel with Kidd breathing down his neck all season as a looming break glass replacement or "shadow coach" if u will...lets be real no wants to be Griff or Vogel in that spot its super uncomfortable...let the dude pic his guys and give him full reign as a sign of good faith imo. Worked out for us with Darvin replacing the old regime his guys plus Phil Handy

The link hasn't been updated from what I can tell, but the push notification I got implied that AG screamed at Stotts during a recent practice and that's what led him to resign.

Again, regardless of reason, I doubt we'll ever hear the true story, this sucks. There was a reason many of us were super excited to hire Stotts to come in and run our offense. When a guy we were all excited to join leaves before the season starts that's not a good thing or a nothing burger. It's not the end of the season or anything but it's a bummer.

Griff: "Hey Terry, we just landed Dame!"
Stotts: "Step aside, I got this!"
Griff: "Um..."

I mean I could see it tbh. Stotts is 65 with a ton of HC experience, including a near decade as HC of one of current stars. My guess is he liked the idea of being an assistant on paper, but once he actually got into it during this training camp, he probably realized that being a #2 guy isn’t what he wanted at this point of his career and may have overstepped his bounds a bit or expected to be treated almost as a second HC or something. And that little incident wasn’t the sole reason for his departure, but just cemented his decision.

That story seems pretty light to lead to resignation, but also seems like the kinda story that could've prompted a 'I'm too old for this ish' reaction and/or a realization that the situation just wasn't going to work out from Stotts.

Vogel/Kidd was an even weirder arranged marriage with Frank being established as a HC. Griff/Stotts made more sense on paper, but just didn't click. Hopefully, Griff can call a former teammate or colleague to shore up the staff.

LUKE23 wrote:My best guess is Stotts wanted a Lillard-centric offense with GA being primarily a screener and off ball mover, and AG wanted to center around GA. Just a guess. Obviously I’m on Stotts side if that’s the case. I do not have a good feeling about AG.

Not worried about any Stotts-Harris difference of direction or emphasis. Giannis demanding a GA-centered offense after acquiring Dame would be a real problem though, and it'd be unlikely Dame lasts the season. Agreed that Stott's Lillard-based offense is necessary, and when Dame's strong-armed into excluding the other three Bucks on the floor, it's all coming apart.

This isn't what anyone is saying. You're concerned about "maximizing" the offense on the margins but you haven't really described what that means, or how Stotts was so uniquely qualified to do that.

Thanasis is Cousin Greg. Bit of a wildcard and only there because of his last name but he finds a way to stick around.
