Obviously I am not going to scroll through 35 pages of insecurities :D, so I am gonna ask nicely:

Do we know anything about this? Any insider info?

Awesome post. It's a shame our younger posters won't get it.

"When the players and coaches broke the huddle, Stotts went in the opposite direction of the coaches’ huddle and instead started walking toward players to discuss the offense. As Stotts attempted to start a conversation with Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Griffin called to Stotts to join the coaching huddle. When Stotts asked for some time with the players, Griffin yelled for Stotts to join the coaches’ huddle. The incident occurred in front of the entire team, those sources said."

I get why people think this could have been handled without yelling at the dude in front of everyone but if I'm picking sides based on this small amount of context then Stotts is more in the wrong for not listening to the head coach and making the entire coaching staff wait for him to go rogue when he could have had all the time in the world to chat up Giannis and Dame after the coaches huddle.

I'm leaving it at that, it's Dame time

That is not my reaction to this. This all reads to me like an Adrian Griffin ego trip and the beginning of a pretty toxic culture/environment.

Goofy. The person responsible for creating a **** culture is the one ignoring the boss. Go to the huddle like all the other staff, talk to the players after, it's not that hard.

Not good timing for this but better now than later in the season.
Stotts was a great offensive basketball mind but he always struck me as soft. Good bye and good luck Terry.

What seems more likely? Stotts who is well known as a mild mannered person who put up with George Karl for a decade as his HC randomly decided to try and overstep his level or that Griff, who learned coaching from Skiles, Thibs, & Nurse, has an abrasive personality that wore on Stotts and Stotts who is secure enough in his career decided enough was enough and walked out. Maybe Stotts should have bowed to Griff more, but I think it's very easy to come to a conclusion that at best Stotts was lied to about the kind of input he'd have on this team

This is goofy. Stotts was hired by Griffin's bosses for them to work together........ Ipso facto, it's Griffin who's ignoring the direction by flexing the muscle in his title.

If you want to be really cynical you could say that AG may have been threatened by Stotts’ experience and the fact that he was Dame’s former coach. This made him more apt to single out Stotts and make everyone aware that AG is in charge. I wouldn’t blame him for doing that either since it is a difficult situation for him. A bad start and people would have been clamoring to make Stotts the head coach.

to all the guys acting like stotts went rogue can i ask some quickies?

in your opinion would stotts have been able to quick run have a poop or would he needed sayso?
or was the issue simply not being able to have one quick final thought with the teams stars before breaking for the day?
you know before interacting with the other coaches doing what coaches do when they arent doing the other things coaches do like pooping and talking to players does stotts need to ask permission for these things?

to me, if im stotts, im kinda thinking like what kind of leash do i have if AG is gonna treat me like a puppy. thats kinda my thought. id probs quit that bitch too. at my age i can greatfully say i wouldnt have shoved his teeth back but quitting? yep that would be easy

Working together still has a pecking order and one has the title of HEAD coach and the other does not. Incredible to me that people can ignore the actual wrongdoing, a dude not respecting his bosses wishes while but blame the boss for speaking loudly.

They weren't breaking for the day, the players were still going to be there and whatever Stotts had to say to them could have waited until after the coaches huddle.

"According to sources who witnessed the events, Griffin wrapped up the shootaround and called the team together for a huddle to close out the day and let the players get to post-shootaround shooting drills. During that huddle, Griffin informed the coaches that he wanted to have a separate huddle with them once they wrapped things up."

Come on man, based on just this context which is all we have, the right thing to do was join all the other coaches in the huddle and talk to your stars after.

Stott's is NOT your typical assistant coach in this league, and it's up to Griffin to recognize that and treat him accordingly.

Griffin had an issue with a coach coaching and made a stink about it, and you're going to sit there and be like, wow, Stotts was wrong? That's petty as all hell. It sounds stupid, because it IS stupid. This is a situation where conventional wisdom says it shouldn't be a problem, but Griffin made it a problem.

Whether Stotts "went rogue" or not is beside the point. This isn't how you handle it. It's bad communication and counterproductive. Literally management 101.

so once it was wrapped up the coaches would have a huddle. apparently stotts was still wrapping things up with the teams stars. like thats his job?

i have managers of my stores and im often in the exact same situation. an allteam meeting before a secondary meeting twith leadership. if my manager still wants to take somebody aside after an allteam meeting i give them the trust and the respect they have in those positions to act as they feel needed. i try not to act like a megalomaniac in front of my entire store for finishing up their duties with the team first before they have to listen to me drone to them about "management stuff"

the idea stotts did something out of line is absurd

and the idea that whats happening there isnt becoming toxic is absurd too. this situation is a **** missile

I think if we're trying to read into just this one single situation we're looking at it wrong. There was likely much more involved in this. This article is almost assuredly the spin from the Bucks to Shams to try and make Griff look as good as possible and limit the firestorm from the fans. Stotts will likely never say anything publicly so we'll likely never know the full truth. But the responsibility of the culture ultimately falls on the Head Coach. It's his job to lead the team, there are plenty of examples of veteran head coaches going to work for a first time head coach and it almost never ends up like this situation did and absolving any blame that Griff or the organization might have is foolish. Now Stotts likely also shares in that as well but he's gone now so I'm more worried about the guys who are still here and how they might have failed and if it could or will happen again in the future.
