I mean preseason and all but so far he scores almost a point per minute played at 51%FG
His scoring is here right now, it's just a matter how long they want to leave him on the floor

Barring injury this dude's physical prime from like 23 to 27 could be unlike anything we've seen before jf he can sustain that high motor, he could honestly go 10 to 15 possessions impacting both sides of the court. That's scary.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

He hasn't really gone up against any resistance though.

Yeah I mean regular season is not gonna be hugely different, load management, tanking teams etc

How about we let the kid play 10 games first before making such claims?

why, what's gonna change in 10 games?

"GOAT potential" just means that this dude has a legit theoretical path to being DPOY while being MVP.
with his size and skillset - that potential is very obvious already. it might not happen for a plethora of reasons (the most likely one being health) but the potential is there

he can play 10 games, completely suck and the potential is still gonna be there. so what's the use in waiting to make that argument?

Hope they bring him along slowly, though. Putting too much on him too fast may break him or lead to a lower final ceiling (thinking of guys like KAT, LaMello who seem to have stagnated a bit because thrust into too big a role too early)

Lamelo "stagnated" because of recurring injuries not because he was thrust into this role or other.
Kat was nowhere near Wemby as a prospect or as a player and also had mental issues from day one, Victor at least so far, doesn't give off that vibe at all.

He is going to be a star but he plays too soft for my liking. He is a big wing player. I wish there was a bit more aggression in his game like a Giannis or Lebron.

I'm not gonna go overboard but I get the sense Wemby was created by Nick Young and Dlo wearing shaqs undies on their head trying to create the greatest of all time weird science style.

To be honest, in 'regular season' more 'basic' offense he'll get more free buckets than he did in the preseason as a roller/finisher/spot up shooter. He'll have these nights with 25 pts scored without too many set up plays.

Something between Durant (combination of size, agility, jumper, passing and handles), Dirk (these mid/high post isos will be unguardable soon), Davis as a finisher when he gets some muscles and eventually Kareem (if he develops some moves on low post) is an offensive projection for him.

Giannis, LeBron? Naah. Giannis wouldn't have played like Giannis if he had had this sweet jumper mechanics. He would've been the GOAT, but with a different playing style.

Will he be a bust? Zero chance. Is he the one with the highest ceiling of all time? That’s a good argument to have

Even if he’s a streaky shooter it wouldn’t really matter because if his FT% converts to this level which basically it’s a given as he’s improved each year in the Euros.

And he’s 7”4, people talk about counters?… What counter lol.

The only chance he is a bust is if he can't stay healthy

Fully expect to read in todays sports news that the Spurs have exercised Victor Wembanyama’s 5th yr option 4years early to everyone's surprise.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he's one of the most talented athletes of all-time.

Hopefully he stays healthy.

It's not an exaggeration to say this dude has GOAT potential. His measurements are unlike anything we have ever seen before, and his skillset really is a KD on offense, and a more agile Gobert on defense.

Watching him play close to the basket defensively has to be reminiscent of Kareem at UCLA, just take away the long range shooting and ball handling , but a tall slim build with long arms and seemingly looking like a giant amongst his opponents.

they say nature evolves and history repeats itself well wemby is gonna ruffle some feathers because he's spending the 4yrs kareem spent in college in the pros. And Kareem just so happen to score the most points of any player up until Lebron broke his what was thought almost unbeatable record. Kareem had 6 Titles and 6 MVPs, how many would he have if he skipped college where he went
88-2.

man, this is the NBA we're talking about here...
scoring has never been easier and Wemby can actually shoot, move, dribble and he's...7'4.
not to mention he's going to have the green light to make mistakes (and even low-key chuck) as the Spurs aren't competing for anything just yet

he seems pretty confident and comfortable already with his shot and he can just plant his feet and take an open jumper from anywhere basically

his scoring is coming now :)
might not be very efficient but he's going to score in bunches, right of the gate

edit: I mean, Banchero had 20 ppg last season, u guys really think Wemby is gonna score 15 ppg, in the current NBA?
hell to the no haha

calling his rookie season as a 12-15 ppg guy while leading the league in blocks is so 2022..
he doesn't seem to be fouling alot and it makes sense, most young big are prone to being baited by pump fakes etc, Wemby is so damn long his margin of error is simply huge

we'll have to see how many mpg he'll actually play but his points per min are gonna be up there even as rookie imo

picc wrote:The only thing holding this kid back this year is going to be the lack of passing talent on the Spurs. These guys have no clue how to make an entry pass, throw a lob, or create a play for a big. A real table setter on this team would have Wemby averaging 25ppg.

He's already averaging 33.2 per 36 minutes, on good shooting percentages. What are y'all watching?

33.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 4.7 blocks per 36, on 50.9/31.8/85.7% shooting.

In his first 4 games against NBA players.
