I move that we change this thread title to "Welcome to Boston, Drew Carter."
OR -- and just throwing this out there -- "Drew Carter: enough of a sample?"

He did mess up Stormbreaker on the first attempt but corrected himself later. Also enjoyed the “el fuego” at Acal’s expense lol

Gorman's shoes are Hard to fill. In fact, they can't be.
But, the Kid looks alright. He'll make his own way.
As it should be.

It would be great if he had grown up a Celtics fan, but I won't hold it against him.
yeah I don't care that he hasn't been a Celtics fan. but I need him to kind of become one now. if it takes him a few years to feel at home like it did for Tatum, that's fine.
I'm happy to have a non-homer in there, especially taking over for Mike. I loved Tommy, and Johnny Most, but it's always been a minor point of minor pride that Mike calls it pretty straight. Don't get me wrong, I know he LOVES the team and most of its players, but non-Celtic fans listening in get a 'real' call of the game instead of just, like, if you put Eddie House with Scal, two guys chortling about private jokes from the olden days and saying "us" any time they talk about the Celtics.
And if Drew had grown up a Celtic fan, he might be a) more in awe of or b) far more critical of Scalabrine.
i agree. i don't mean to say i want a "tommy-like" homerism. but i want him to be embedded with the team, like mike. he knows the team intimately and it's apparent in how he does his job. i don't like the national broadcast games because most of their claims about the team are cliches that a close follower knows are not truly reflective.
as a side note example since you brought up Scal: national broadcasters starting in 2007-08 would refer to Scal as a "fan favorite". this was odd, because Scal was (unjustly) booed by local fans until the 2007-08 season, when he only started to become a fan favorite. he had been a fan favorite in new jersey before boston and so national broadcasters seemed to assume this was his notable role in boston. it only became that way after they began saying it.
so i don't want Drew to be like a national, general sports guy who pops in for Celtics games. i want him to really identify as THE Celtics broadcaster and make it his (career) home.

cl2117 wrote:Seems like the commentating he's doing is kind of "paint by numbers". He's not doing anything wrong, but it's definitely lacking that little something extra that separates the good commentators from the average. That will only come with time, so you gotta give him room to grow.
To his credit though, he's not bad and I mean that as a compliment. There have been plenty of times where I've had to watch a non-Boston stream of a game and wanted to mute the game because their crew sucked for one reason or another. Drew is already above that level, which bodes well.
I'm shocked sometimes by the commentary when I'm on a League Pass feed. Boston's been lucky.
Carter only has to shave once a month but you can't hear it in his voice. For someone his age he's excellent and will get better. He may reach that Mike Breen, Ian Eagle tier.
Scal's become really good, too.
