Woj: Adams out for the year with PCL surgery
I guess this is why we have new doctors now. What a joke. Should have done this so much earlier than now.

Welp at least our youth is going to have amble opportunity now. Might even get some steady Loftin rotation minutes. I think the plan is likely to see if we can handle this in house and see what Clarke looks like when he comes back before making any moves maybe at the deadline.

I'm not sure if Clarke will be back this year at all. If he does come back, it probably won't be in time to get a good look at him prior to the trade deadline.
I think we either sign a FA (Dwight has been tearing it up in China lol) or make a trade. If we want to use assets then we can look at maybe Robert Williams. If we are bargain shopping then Hartenstein from NY may be an interesting option.

How the **** was this so mismanaged? He should have had the surgery in April once it was clear he wouldn't be available for the playoffs.

Re: Woj: Adams out for the year with PCL surgery
What do you guys think of a Konchar/LaRavia/Lofton/2nds package for Rob Williams? If Zaire is for real then one of Roddy or LaRavia is going to start losing out of rotation minutes. Konchar is nice player but I think we won't miss him much either now. Lofton is fun to think about what he could become, but are we really going to give him the minutes he needs to develop.
We would have find a 14/15 spot after this trade. Likely still want another center and we can wait to fill the 15th spot.

Having had a couple of knee surgeries myself, they probably left it up to him and his doctors.
My Guess: They decided that surgery would cause him to miss the entire 2023-2024 season no matter what, so at least trying rest & rehab was worth it. It was a gamble but the reward was 0 surgery and 0 time missed vs surgery and an entire year of recovery.
Otherwise, it really doesn't make much sense...

Against. JJJ now has a challenge. X has an opportunity. Same as Aldama and Lofton. We should be fine for now. We can trade for a big body in February or sign one who was bought out later.
RW3 is injury-prone and will cost us more than LaRavia.
I am voting for Biyombo.

So you would pay the price above if Portland would take the offer? Or just don't want to pay more? Or just not want RW3.
X I think can hold down the fort for the most part in the regular season, but if he is our starting center again in the playoffs we are going to be cooked. He is already near or at his ceiling as a player I think. Likely can become a better screener and improve some around the edges but doubt he becomes the player we really need here. He is good enough that we don't need to be reckless here and make a shortsighted deal.

Zero interest in that package from POR.

I think you expectation are way over zealous on Rwill value. I think I have a better handle on his value than you. JRoy I already knew you would be against it, so no new information here.

Time will tell.
Williams is solid player but often injured. Ideally he will be moved to a playoff team in need of big man help.
If mediocre prospects and SRP are his value POR may as well keep him.

Agreed on X.
Re RW3, I am ok if he costs us LaRavia, hesitant if LaRavia + 1st, against if more. I just think that we need to be patient, not to rush to overpay. We have time, we are not desperate. Yet. What are your thoughts?

I think if the price is right we make a move now. If the cost is LaRavia and 1st would you want Adams being the salary outgoing? Really not much advantage of getting off Adams next year since we over the cap and can use his salary slot in a trade then if need be. I understand from Portland's pov they likely wouldn't value Adams much next year so they are going to want to compensated here. That is way I think we might do something like I proposed above. Maybe include a 1st to Portland and include a 3rd team that gives up a few good future 2nds for LaRavia that goes back to Memphis is the best way to balance the trade.
What I expect:
I think we sign a cheap FA soon in the next 10 days or so or look at what we can get with the 7.9m TPE. It would be nice to have another decent size chuck of salary that can be aggregated later in the season. We might take someone's expiring filler and a 2nd just to get our hands on that salary for later. I think if there is a bigger move it is likely a couple months down the line when more players are tradeable. If we have to pay a premium here I rather do it once we have a little more information about how our roster is performing.

I would if Portland accepts him+ for RW3. Reid is not much an interior-type of big we are looking for.

Reid is just not the prototype we need. With Ja defensive weakness we really need at least a decent defender at center. Rather just give Aldama all the minutes he can handle than move Kennard for Reid.

Taj Gibson and Derrick Favors were both waived today. We will get a roster spot opened after the 5th game from Ja's suspension exception. Maybe give out a ten day to test drive one these guys to see if there is any gas left?

Re: Woj: Adams out for the year with PCL surgery
This is bad timing for this to happen now. A huge loss for the Grizzlies as far as defense and rebounding is concern. Unless a move is on the horizon to patch up for the loss, the Grizzlies will have their struggles in the paint on box outs, rebounds, and will miss the pick and rolls Adams provides with the team.
